Obviously I would have much rather went with an EVGA backplate, lol, I tried waiting for the hydrocoppers, but I just couldn't wait lol. When I got my card immediately I purchased an EK Cooler and Backplate. (My card is an EVGA Titan SC Signature)

I've never had a backplate on any of my cards, and I noticed that EVGA backplates have more hole's in them. Is this for aesthetics or is it necessary for helping the back of the card keep cool? The main reason I bought the backplate was to protect the card, and aid in cooling the ram on the back.

I was considering modding the backplate to let it breath a little better by either drilling some holes in it, or using a scroll saw and modding a design in it.  Any thoughts?

It's all for looks and protecting the PCB and the components on it. Just leave the EK backplate as is. It looks nicer than the EVGA one anyway (IMO).

It helps the card breathe a little bit but it doesn't really make a difference either way to be honest. The memory on the backside really do not get very hot.

Just got it today. :D Not sure what i'm doing yet. Probably gonna test the temps with my tester when I get home, then see if the back of the card has any hot spots, if not then probably just leave it the way it is.

What about the GPU? I notice most backplates have a hole for the backside of the gpu. Should I be concerned about heat building up in there?

Truly I don't think it is going to matter that much. I don't see more than a 2c difference. I just got mine so I didn't have to worry about ripping a resistor off or something like that

So I tested the back of the card with my laser temp tester, but couldn't test the spot by the gpu due to my recon 3d card covering bout 60 percent of the card. Just enough exposed to test the right side ram. Under full load it's hitting between 35c and 55c, so not bad.
My concern is the backside of the card where the gpu is. I'm just thinking the backplate doesn't really let air flow from that spot, so my worry is over long term game session the heat will build up. But again, it'll be over water cooling so maybe not. Kinda wish I waited for the evga backplates to come out. Maybe i'm just worrying to much, but this card costed me $1150 not including gpu block and other parts, last thing I want to do is ruin it over something stupid.

Does anyone with a waterblock installed have a tester so they can read what kind of temps are coming off the backside of the card by the gpu? If not i'll probably rip the recon3d out and test myself later. I'm sure they wouldn't design a backplate without testing it. Anyone ever use a full cover non venting backplate, and if so have you ever had any issue's with the card?

Not trying to be anal, just this is a lot of money to me and want to do it the right way, last thing I want is damage this card.

Thanks for everyone's help. Really appreciate it. :D

Thinking about cutting a square hole in the center of the backplate just to be safe.. ??
