Ok... I am going to buy a needle and pierce my own ear; however, I don't know which needle size to get. Does any here have done this before? Does CVS even carry those sterile needles? I went t to the nearest CVS here and don't don't have it. Thanks

A lot of men have their ear pierced. It's no big deal to have it done by a professional. In Amsterdam, The Netherlands for example there are several body piercing places and they have to be certified.

I am going to do it myself, and I am not going to a pro just to pierce my ear. That is why I want to get the needle locally here in Maryland. Anyways what needle gauge should I get? It will be a regular earring, but I do not know the gauge.

Just burn the needle with a lighter or something to sterilize it.Some people numb their ear with an ice cube before they stick the needle through.Real men don't need ice tho, lol jp. Edit: not sure about the gauge sorry.

Any boutique in any mall will pierce your ear for you. There's no need to worry yourself with what gauge needle to get or how to sterilize it.

I have done it before when I was in HS, but it was not straight and the hole is closed now. @Afterburner and BioHazardSperm You guys are right, but I don't know any pro here; plus, it will be expensive I'm sure. Wallmart and some boutique in the mall should have some people do earrings, but they use gun. I don't like guns because of not sterilize materials. Cleaning the gun by wiping alcohol is not enough for me, so I decided to do it myself. I am sure one of the guys here have done this before.

I don't have one, but the most important advice: Do NOT go swimming for at least a week, whether you've done it yourself or had it done for you, it WILL get infected and horrible. I would honestly not shower for the first two days either without some rubber hat on or something. Just YouTube "infected earlobe" or something and you'll know why ;)

I have had my ears pierced 3 times. Not too bad. Their still open too. I had them since I was 15 so thats about 10 years ago. I highly dont recommend you do it yourself as thats just a horrid idea. Go into any small store that sells earrings and ask if they do it. It's normally 10$ Also you risk piercing the wrong area when you do it yourself. in the store they just take the earring and the piercing gun then pierce it through. IMO ice is for pansies.

I watched some video of expertville on youtube. They cleaned the earlobe with an alcohol and follwed by the brown stuff. After the process of piercing the he recleaned it with an alcohol. Here's the video. http://www.youtube.com/wa...Ik&feature=channel Does anyone know what that brown stuff is (0:28 to 0:36)? I sent a text message to my friend, so that he can pierce a needle to my ear. And he replied with a yes, and he said that we should drink some beer before we start the process. Therefore, we have some alcohol flowing with the blood. I just thought it was funny. Next week I'll drive to VA and get my ear pierce. I hope the wound heals before I get an job interview(no interview sched yet ) Who uses ice?

IMO, I wouldn't do it myself. But its cheap and quick to do it at the shop. They just put the stud on the gun punch it through. I got mine done when I was 14 or 15.

The method used in the video is when people get a larger bore size done right off the bat. Your standard ear piercing stud is 18 gauge and that there looks more like a 12. The 'brown' stuff is iodine, and to be honest, if you didn't know that than for the love of pete, go to the mall and get someone to shoot you with the gun. They are perfectly fine and do not need to be overtly sterilized as the only thing making contact with you is the stud that will be left in your ear.

You could do what my friend did and get a safety pin and just stick it through your ear? Didn't hurt at all and its been fine for a month no infection or anything, just cleaned it off first...

I like others here suggest you get it done by someone with experience. I have done two in my ear myself once it ended up with an infection that got a little out of hand. I eventually let both heal and got them done by a pro....You pay nothing at most places except for the cost of the earring itself. I've had my Lebret and eyebrow done too by a pro with no issues, Just watch what they do and ask questions if your nervous about it being clean if it's a good place they will have no issues with showing you that everything is sterile and clean. When i get tattoos or piercings I always ask to see the equipment or watch to see if they used sealed sterile stuff. After they have done their job it's all up to you to keep it clean and take care of it until it's healed. I've seen friends do it themselves or have another friend do it and about 75% of the time it ended in infection even with alcohol wipes and iodine. I guess in all it's about what it used...Needles bought at a store are not sterile. Get it done by a pro!!!...lol

I'd say go to the mall and get it done too. My sister got her ears pierced at Claire's (they sell earrings and other accessories if that's not by you). Buy a set of earrings and it's like a $10 piercing fee, and I know she got some stuff (I want to say it was included in the piercing fee) to make sure it doesn't get infected. Or you can go old school like how my mom said she had her ears pierced. Get a slice of apple, a lighter, and a safety pin (one of the thick ones). Optional materials include alcohol and ice cubes. Wipe off your ear lobe with alcohol, rub an ice cube on it to numb it a bit, sterlize the safety pin with the lighter and then shove it through your ear into the apple. I'm not sure whether the apple is to make sure you don't jab yourself in the head or to cool the back of your ear. The needle will be slightly hot, so it cauterizes the hole. I'd probably opt for the gun lol.
