Hey guys, My friend would like a new computer, but he wants to keep it under $900

They way Ive been putting stuff together I just cant seem to get a price anywere close to under $900 (he also needs a monitor and keyboard, nothing fancy)

Ive tried mock building a i5 for him, always over $900, any help that I could get that would build him a nice computer for his buck, he is a casual gamer, and will use it for internet and school

Thanks

    Casual gamer, internet and school?

I say get him a E8400, a good P45 and a HD5850, equivalent or better, and he's good to go.

No real need for a i5, is there?

A good 775 socket motherboard and cpu, some inexpensive ddr2 memory and a decent 200 series video card would work well for the casual gamer and everything else they might need it for.  If your going to use more then 2 gigs of ram for the build make sure to get a 64-bit Operating System though.

+1 If you are on a tight budget you might get more bang for the buck with ATi, in some cases, tho.

I would switch that board and cpu out for something like this.

    Asus P5Q Pro Turbo $129
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131377

    E7500 $115
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115056

And then switch the 1TB drive to like a 500GB and save $50 would put it at right at $900 He can always add drives later if he wants. Does he really need 1TB to start with. Does he have a previous PC that you can borrow parts from being hard drives, Optical drives?

Well the CPU and MB I suggested would be a lot better IMHO and if you got a cheaper HD it would put it at $900. And you could also watch the for sale thread and pick up used video card for around $100. And possibly a used MB and CPU combo.
