hello everybody, im looking for a case for my build, ~ i kinda did it backwards in the way that i have all the parts (p55 le mobo, i5, 4gb ripjaws ram, 5770) but no case... i have been looking into the Thermaltake spedo advanced package, but dont know if its worth the price. what im hoping is that the case is painted on the inside, and has enough room for a large air cooler.. those are really the only two major concerns.. any suggestions would be nice thanks!

CM Storm Sniper Black edition, that'll cover your needs with ease.

Had it been out when I bought my ATCS 840 I might not have the ATCS 840, though I'll probably just paint that eventually...

Wow thanks, i really like the cm690! i guess it would help to say that im looking into full atx case and my price range is < $300 i know that kinda limits me but im sure there is a lot more cases out there that fit the criteria than what im finding! thanks again every1!

if i was going with a midsized case, i would go with the cm scout ;)

If you want to go big, I recommend the Corsair Obsidian 800D. That thing is a monster.

I know you said <$300, but the Lian Li P80 is one of a kind. For even if you someday go with watercooling, you can fit TWO 360mm rads inside. Beats my Corsair 800D in aircooling, for sure.

that been told to me a lot. and for cooling, im thinking an h50 ~ at first i didnt think i would want  a water cooler, but am impressed with it.. i have an i5 750, and want to do an overclock.. im hoping to be stable around 4ghz... well, 3.8~4.1 actually. what i like about the h50 is the low/no maintenance. but if i can get an air cooler that will out perform it at arround the same price let me know!!

i vote no on the Lian Li P80 its just no near as good looking as the corsair.  Plus its not painted inside like you wanted. My vote is still for the 800d, but you've known that for months now.

I love the look of the true 120, ive had a couple magahalems at the store where i work, they remind me of transformers and i cant really get passed that lol. i was also seeing that noctua has some good heatsinks.

right now it comes down to this for me in cases,

    Thermaltake Spedo Advanced Package
    Raven RV01 BW
    Corsair 800D

    As for cooling

    H50
    True 120
    Nactua D14

If you're getting the H50, the Corsair 800D is a great choice.
My point, and believe me I know this personally, is that with a HSF there just is not enough fresh airflow inside this case to keep the temps down.
Add in another GPU on top of that and there's issues.

Well, if I have a big enough case then its just a matter of management to keep the h50 running smoothly. the spedo has a heat shroud for the GPUs.. and would it be possible just to put a better fan on the h50 to make it run cooler? ive seen some ppl say to have it pulling air from the outside in to the case. higher ambient temps inside kinda worry me. however, im not shooting for an extreme oc. oh and i agree with vaughn, i dont like lian li at all... i just cant get into their cases

For the H50 to run most efficiently you should configure the fan to intake fresh air from outside the case.  The larger the temperature difference between inside and outside the case the cooler the H50 will keep your CPU.

As for not being into Lian-Li cases I suggest you build just one if you haven't already.  I used to hate their design.  After building one they are one of my favorite cases.  Just my $.02

the h50 cooler is great, but it has its limits.  I've seen a few people have a 4.4 overclock with it, but i don't know what their load temps are.  My i5 hits 85-87 @ 4.0.  It's not in the best of places and i'm only using one fan, but its still alittle hotter than what i would like.  If it wasn't for my ram running like it is, i would slow it down.  But then again it's my media center and does nothing, but stream and play blu-ray movies.  It very quite though.  The other coolers won't be near that quite.

I think h50 is the way to go.. i had always kinda though about it but was so used to the idea of air cooling. i think im gonna go with the h50 and the spedo... i think ill be satisfied with that..

I also highly recommend the CM Sniper or Cosmo Pure black edition. The 690 ll is a very nice case also, but you'll have to buy the extra fans.

    Re:Case suggestions Monday, February 15, 2010 7:47 PM (permalink)
I was about to buy the Cosmo Pure Black Edition, and then I saw the Corsair Obsidian 800D. Actually I saw the Corsair first, in a store, and was a little confused at what I saw. Didn't know what I was looking at was the 4x hot swappable HDD bays. Being a guy who likes to dick around with Linux installs on old HDD, it was rather ideal for me. Though I never saw the Cosmos in person, it looks pretty sexy I must admit.

Despite the $300 price tag, I vote Corsair Obsidian 800D. It is more room than you'll ever need for air, which also makes installing the mobo a breeze. If you ever want to change your CPU cooler it has a back door to remove it with out removing the whole mobo. Which I thought I'd never use, little did I know the Zalman tower which I bought sucked the balls and I'd use it 2 days after I bought the case. Which leads my to the Corsair H-50, which is what replaced that Zalman tower. I don't think I'll ever go back to air cooling again. Though more on that in a minute. The Corsair case has two downfalls: it's 24" x 24" x 9" (of course my last case was 22" x 22" x 9 so idrc) and the USB ports are above the CD drives. So if you have a CD drive at the top and use any USB item which say has a keychain, make sure you pick it up before closing your CD/DVD drives so it doesn't snag and break something.

I want to OC my i7-920, and I wish I could ease your concerns on how the H-50 handles OC heat. I just happen to be a nub at OC'ing right now and haven't had the time to do more than dick around in the E-LEET utility where it seems I can run a stable 2.9Ghz (standard of course being 2.67Ghz but mine runs 2.799Ghz according to the utility) w/o doing more than jacking up the speed. However, my i7-920 idles at 24-26 C (room temp) and under Prime95 testing for 3 hours it topped at 49 C. I have it mounted in the middle 120mm fan position at the top of the case in a p/p configuration pulling air in to the case from the top. Using two Silenx ixtrema 120mm 72 cfm fans.

Well, i put the order in the other day for the thermaltake spedo advance package and an corsair h50. i put the spedo and the 800 on a side by side comparison and realized that there isnt really anything i get more out of the 800d other than a more open case. i dont swap  hard drives that often so im ok with out the frontside hotswap slots. which after further research the spedo can do also. it just doesnt look as good. there is one thing that i see in the 800d that i havent seen anywhere else is the vast array of cable management opportunitys.
