Hello All,
I'm upgrading my PC and would like some thoughts on a new processor.
I'm currently in a situation where upgrading my PC is costing me largely nothing, pretty much only paying for a new processor.

I have purchased an ASRock Z77 Extreme3 1155 motherboard (Cybermonday sale) with the intention of going for a Intel i5 3570K ($169.99 at Microcenter). However I've been reading quite a few reviews as I'm sure all of you do, and I'm finding very conflicting information regarding the different Ivy Bridge processors and even Sandy vs Ivy.

I'm coming from an Intel i7 920 @ 3.8GHz (stable on air). I play some games, do some programming, and generally enjoy having a fast machine. Money isn't a huge issue, I don't really have a problem spending $250 on a CPU- but I like to look at performance vs cost and generally want to be a smart buyer.

I'm still eyeing the i5 3570K, mainly because a lot of reviewers are saying to not bother with the hyper-threading of the Ivy i7's. I've noticed that indeed I do not use many multi-threaded applications as of today. I've also read reports of users preferring i7-2700k. I enjoy do overclocking...

So what is your guys' sweet spot CPU at the moment? (Only interested in 1155 cpus).

For those curious...
Going From:
Intel i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz
eVGA x58 SLI mobo
120GB Vertex(1) SSD SATA II
6GB DDR3 1333 9Lat RAM
2x eVGA GTX 480 SLI
1010W PSU
---------------------
Going To:
Intel iX XXXXk @ x.xxGHz
ASRock Z77 Extreme3 LGA 1155
Mushkin Chronos 240GB SATA III SSD
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB)
2x eVGA GTX 480 SLI
1010W PSU

Thanks for reading, I will continue to research and post any new information.

    i5 3570K is a good choice.

Here is a good review on what you should expect out of each processor:

Those are games that require quite a bit from a system, they use a GTX 590 which is pretty much the same performance as your GTX 480's in SLI with a small overclock.

Thank you sir, man you've been around a long while :P

    I <3 charts!

As I suspected the i5 would be a good match, I picked one up today at Microcenter for 169.99 (3570K). Maybe I'll get a little more (or at least power efficient) overclock out of it.

Other than bragging rights and staring at 8 underutilized 'cores' in task manager, I don't think I'd get much else use out of the i7, being a gamer / C#/ Java guy.
