Hi all It is time to upgrade some of the bits in my rig, limited funds mean that I will have to do it in stages so I was thinking of the following as the first stage EVGA X79 FTW Dominator® GT with DHX Pro Connector — 1.5V 16GB Quad Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMT16GX3M4X2133C9) Intel® Core™ i7-3930K Processor (12M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) Corsair H80 Liquid CPU Cooler I will be keeping my EVGA GTX460s (sli) and Intel SSD, Corsair AX850 psu, case is a cool master HAF X can anyone see problems with the part upgrade? Cheers Riff

You choose good things but maybe you can think about H100 if you want to OC. It's six core Intel you will try probably 4.2-4.5GHz someday and H100 have little better temps. PSU is enough, case have good airflow, your SSD is probably SATA III ... powerfull PC. Look that memory how work with X79. CORSAIR say Guranteed Support for X79 ... Ask some X79 FTW/Classified owners. Quad Channel is important for X79. 3930k properly cooling with Hydro Series/ EVGA X79 FTW/ Dominator GT 2133 - Quad Excellent PC I liked X79 FTW but it's over my budget because of CPU and importan Quad Channel at once, unavailable for me and to much only for gaming.

Your parts are fine. The H80 should be able to handle a fairly good overclock but for massive overclocking an H100 is recommended as per forum member Vlada011's recommendation.

Cheers Riff Hello my friend and welcome to the forums! 1.) If you just enjoy gaming, you could save yourself some money and go with the Z77 chipset and a socket 1155 Ivy Bridge processor. 2.) If you choose to go with X79, I would recommend an Asus, MSI or Gigbyte board (or ASrock). There have been many problems with EVGA's X79 boards that none of the other boards seem to suffer from. If you want a specific board, just shoot me a PM and I will be glad to help. 3.) For whichever board you choose, visit the vendor site and check the RAM QVL sheet. This will tell you which specific RAM(kits) has been tested with their board. Trust me, you will save yourself many a headache down the road. Either way you go, your other items will work well. Best of luck!

Cheers Riff The Corsair AX850 PSU will handle the SLI of the 460s just fine but they made that yate loon fan spin so slow i really would recommend a higher wattage psu with a bigger fan (14cm) which would just be as quiet. The SLi on the FTW is so odd... the 2nd card is near the bottom which for most casings without the PSU mounted at the bottom is horrible in temperatures. The angled 4 pin molex there for extra power to the cards in pci-e is also unaccessable. The L.E.D. indicator will be blocked by your 2nd card. However in a HAF X you have elimated one of those issues.

Hi thanks for the quick replies couple of issues that i had not thought about H100 would fit in the top of the case with ease, have to remove two 210mm fans, but worth thinking about PSU was going to be in stage 2, but will check the funds after i settle on mobo now i feel bad talking about other manufacturers boards on the fantastic EVGA forum, but are the X79 FTW still that buggy? also not likeing the second GPU at the bottom of the board are the ASUS rampage iv extreme worth the extra $ or is ASUS p9x79 pro better bang for your buck? or should i go with a different board all together? only have used ASUS and EVGA boards

Personally I chose an Asus RIVF because of all of the issues with evga x79 boards at my time of purchase.....sadly it appears many of them still remain. It's worked out great for me as the board is fantastic.

I still love EVGA X79 FTW but I can't say nothing over X79 both board owners. I would rather choose X79 FTW but won't to suggest someone if guys fight to use their platforms like they pay for.
