Could someone please tell me whether the G2G-P42643 GT 640 Dual Slot card needs two slots into the motherboard or just two slot positions on the frame.

    Only one PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard.
     
    Two "case slots" to mount it.  That is only because of the large heatsink and fan assembly.
     
    But, because it uses two "case slots", that means it usually covers whatever slot is next to your x16 slot on the motherboard.
