Hi everyone, after selling a lot of my VGA cards, here some new build log for my new Intel Core i7 based setup also featuring the X79 Chipset. The EVGA X79 FTW motherboard is thus my mobo of choice

The PSU I am gonna use is the Silver Stone Strider 1500 which I also have laying around and this case:

Sorry for the bad picture, it's just temproal to show the case heheThe Dual G34 project was for me far too expensive, but for this build, an Intel X79 setup seems very doable and still quite powerful too.

I'll keep this thread up to date and I promise this build will be completed, it's something that can be confirmed

As for the Dacentrurus it's self, that is this fella

It's the brown colored one on the left

Re:Dacentrurus SMP 2012 Something of a different taste 2012/05/02 09:15:54 (permalink)
Hay thanks xD

As the Mobo goes I have the EVGA X79 FTW in mind, since it has the E-ATX Form Factor and it's layout is perfect for my needs

Ideal xD

Main VGA goes in main PCI_E slot the second one goes the 4th PCI-E slot which is the 3rd PCI-E x16 from above and the sound card in the bottom

Or I place the Soundcard in the PCI-E x1 slot and the main GTX 590 Classified right runder the sound card and the slave GTX 590 Classified two slots under the main card which would be the bottom slot

The reason why I keep two slots between the 590 Classies is that they have the room to grab enough good airflow and cooled air

Thank you's yeah I did sell a lotta VGA cards to get these beauties

As the GTX 690's go, maybe I will yer, but we know how long it took for the GTX 295 and GTX 590 to get perfected right I mostly wait for like 7 to 12 months so that I get the better revisions, even today Quad SLI with GTX 590's if configured properly runs like crazy, My GTX 295 Red Editions also run most games @ 1920 x 1200 x32 without any issues, but it's the GTX 590's Green White GeForce Led Logo's and their raw power they have they are just too interesting and too cool to leave aside.

All in all this this will roar I hope I may need some help as OCing goes unless there is an Auto OC mode to give it a try, I really lack experience in that sector, it's just I am kinda faint hearted on such things

But hay many pics will be coming in this topic good ones too xD

Yeah sadly my experience with my former GTX590 was less than perfect compared to my GTX295 Co-Ops.  I had what must have been a bad GPU on the card as one would function fine but when SLI was enabled it lag out real bad and when folding it would crash the project.  I was not happy and shortly after getting the replacement I turned around and had to get rid of it for other reasons.  I wish I had a working one again to really mess with.

Well they are not cheap to be honest even that 580 EUR incl Shipping is a very good price for a GTX 590 even being that these are Classified Editions from EVGA heh.

The bright side is that these are brand new and are of the latest Revision which is Revision C.
Your card was probably a Rev A or Rev.B these had issues, the Rev.C's have made in japan VRM's & Capacitors heh, this has solved a lot of things there were also some other fixes with these cards.

I personally would chose an asus rampage board over the evga one, dont get me wrong I LOVE evga its just if you have quad channel memory support why not buy a board with 8 dimms? just my .02

Yeah you have a point when it comes to the ram slots quantity, but I think EVGA was like, since these mobo's are based for the gaming market you won't need more than a max ram buffer of 32GB anyways, but I do agree 8 slots would of made it more useful

But since this is gonna be used mainly for games, so I don't see games using the full 32GB or moar anyways, I even plan to use 4x 4GB plenty for every game out there, still an overkill amount.

CPU wise, what do these X79 things support? 4, 6 and 8 cores right?

Even a good 4 Core would be good enough for the job. It's the PCI-E slot layout I love of this board and no fans that are cooling the chipsets, fans can go defect as where a heatsink can't but I thank you for your thoughts

Re:Dacentrurus SMP 2012 Something of a different taste 2012/05/04 14:32:42 (permalink)
Just ordered this mobo the EVGA X79 FTW :
http://eu.evga.com/produc...ds&sw=5&uc=EUR

The Mobo is where I will build this setup from the ground up, as for the GTX 590's I kinda left that idea aside, 2x GTX 680 4GB is what I plan to aim for, since in many cases 2x 680 2GB beat 2x GTX 590 in Quad SLI, so the 4GB variants should give me O-Plenty VRAM for the upcoming years.

This will be a cheaper and more valuable move for me in the end picture.

As the CPU goes I have the LGA 2011 Quad core on my mind, since this setup will be made for games an 8 threaded Quad Core should be plenty, the CPU I talk about is the Intel Core i7 3820.

A 6 core is nicer but these will cost me 250 Euro's more and that is also not worth it for my needs.

As System Ram goes, I had Corsair and Kingston on my mind, these two have always brought me great experiences, as the amount goes? 4x 4GB should do it for my needs.

So yeah after ordering this mobo I now will order my CPU and memory and from there  I will get a good Intel 510 series SSD, a Plextor Blu-Ray Re-Writer and get this thing up and running hopefully next week if everything goes well :)

It seemed interesting to me I saw Jacob's Video of it and I just wonder would it matter if I connected both 8 Pin CPU connectors even if I would not use them 300 watts?

Sweet! Can't wait to see that completed.
You should consider escorting your PRO sound card with a finer sound system in the future.

Thanks for that

But sadly I have no room for such a thing, yet I do plan to use my Sennheiser PC-360 G4ME Headset for that instead ;)
A good soundcard is needed to get the best out of this high end headset

Anyhoo, later on I do plan on getting a Sennheiser HD 800 pro with a separate Sennheiser Microphone and attach these to the Forte 7.1

Re:Dacentrurus 2012, Something of a different taste 2012/05/08 12:16:57 (permalink)
Hay thanks guys

Well I did sell 26 VGA cards of my 40 part VGA card collection to obtain these new parts, the moneyz did come from somewhere as that goes, as being 100% disabled I try to earn money from other things, also the reason why I collect things, keep them for a few years then sell them when money is really needed for an upgrade or something like this project

It does pay off too, I mean it's been three years since I bought new parts for a new build. So it's not like I'd do this every year like many other builders over here have been doing right

Will there be Ivy Bridge CPU's for X79 also? Like 16 Threaded 8 core CPU's? Unless I can chuck an 8 Core Xeon Server CPU in this EVGA X79 FTW mobo also?

Just curious about that, my knowledge is greater with Opteron based hardware than this type of hardware, so I thought that I might ask that here likewise
