when i first got my 5870 card, i experimented with both landscape and portrait, ultimately going with landscape because i had to turn the monitors back around for business use.

now that i got a beefy mac for my business use, i was able to go back and try portrait mode on my pc upgraded with a 7970 (soon to be xfire).   i like that so much better!

you still get a little extra FOV  (1.89 vs 1.6 ratio) but the problems in unpatched games with the HUD being unusable because it was parked all the way to the left or right are not present.

you *do* have to get used to the bezels being a little more in your face, but for FPS, it doesn't seem to bother me.

If you guys have not tried portrait,  give it a shot!

I use 3x1P almost exclusively for work. It's significantly more pixel count than a 30".
