I'm part of the movement that pioneered the 1155 socket when it came out. I've been very happy with it since then, and the features I got with me P67A-UD7-B3 are simply incomparable with what's out there right now. I have my USB3.0, PCI-E 16X Gen 3.0 Support, and SATA6 RAID. Which is what all the new Z77 are touting these days.

Is there anything I'm missing that would make me want to upgrade to Z77? Because I have been reading all the reviews for the new Z77 boards and I'm not finding anything special, worth upgrading to, in them.

Mind you, I am planning on keeping the 2600K as I have no interest in upgrading that at this moment. Especially when I got it to hit 5GHz on Air, and I currently run a WC unit. The idea here I suppose is avoiding a dead socket, as the Z77 will allow me to upgrade my CPU, while P67 won't.

Would appreciate any opinions in this matter.

I think you pretty much know it's not worth the upgrade, you just wanted to hear people tell you to upgrade so you felt okay with doing it haha.

Is there anything you can't do flawlessly and quick as ever on your pc right now? Doubtful. Even with my 2600k at 4.2 ghz the thing is so powerful I have no need to push it further. My GTX 480's are also overkill but im thinking of selling them and buying a 680.

Wait it out to upgrade. If you have the itch and you want to upgrade, look for other ways to further your system.

Do you have an SSD? If not, that would be the most applicable upgrade in my opinion. Pretty big gains in speed throughout your system, I was blown away even my c300 64gb ssd.

I think you got me man. I honestly have to agree with everything you said. I just wanted an excuse, and honestly, I shouldn't even be thinking about this. I was just curious :)

As for SSD's, yes, I have two on RAID0, and NEVER GOING BACK to HDD's. lol

Keeping the P67 and the 2600K for another year it seems :)

I know that the P67/Z68 boards support IB, but didnt know they supported PCI-E 3.0; specs only show 2.0

I believe the Z77 & Z79 boards are the only ones?

Worth is personal and we can't asnwer that for you, no one should.

The base clock generator is in the chipset, that is how Intel prevents certain CPU/board combinations from overclocking (i.e. 2600K in H61 wouldn't).  A newer chipset will  have a more robust base clock in that it **may** allow higher adjustment, i.e. higher plus-minus range higher than 100MHz.  But like any regular overclocking, luck of the draw and no gaurantees or promises.  Of the few reviews so far, they aren't testing the ability of the base clock, they only change the multiplier and isn't doesn't make a difference.

Here's the ark.Intel comparison to look over.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].
