I installed the new HD texture pack from steam and have had the following problems. - CTD randomly but usually when I try to fast travel
- Wierd purple/lavendar color textures on random things like trees and horses, bones
I am wondering if the CTD is a memory issue? I have 4 GB but am running Vista 32 bit. I also noticed in the data files that there are two HD packs, 1 and 2. Maybe I could just load one of the packs and see how it goes?

I get the purple coloring too... No CTD though... That could be really anything including the game. Is it only with Skyrim when you CTD?

I used to get that purple-colored objects thing *all the time* back prior to the 1.3 update (it's been fixed for a while for me). By and large, that happens when a texture is 'missing'...the default way the game renders objects prior to texturing appears to be as that shade of purple. Could be a corrupted texture pack download? May want to try to 'verify' the Steam files. Or, yeah, it can be memory issues.

You might want to try uninstalling it and giving this texture pack a try. It looks vastly superior and doesn't run much worse. I also use this water texture pack, these HD blood textures, and this high res face texture mod. This lighting mod also improves visual quality of Skyrim considerably, as does the Flora overhaul. I run all of this with only one GTX 480 at 1920 x 1080, with 4x SGSSAA transparency as well and my FPS is usually in the 40s, dropping to the 30s occasionally (mainly in areas with dense vegetation.

I only had the problem that afterburner did, just that small piece of wood in towns is the only place I noticed the texture problem. The texture pack still looks great, and I still recommend it over the Skyrim 2K HD pack, because it uses bethesda's original textures. Skyrim's 2K HD Mod uses alternative textures that don't fit very well in the game athmosphere.

With the exception of BF3, which I gave up on trying to figure out, yes only Skyrim. The CTD's are definitly related to the texture pack for me, when playing without the pack I no longer have the CTD's. That picture is exactly what I was seeing with the pack installed. It started with only bones and then I fast traveled somewhere and like 50 trees where that color, including a horse. Thats when I unistalled and haven't had the issues.

Only a few textures have changed - see the above comparison link and judge for yourself. Blows the official texture pack out of the water.

I'm up to 80-90 hours in Skyrim game play and never had a single crash or fps issue until I downloaded the official texture pack. I got my first CTD exiting a building in Markath yesterday and for some reason when I go into a certain building in Rifken and then exit the frames drop so that every thing is in slow motion. If I reenter the building it goes back to normal only to slow to a crawl when I go back outside. If I exit the game and go back in everything is OK again. I wonder if I should try downloading and reinstalling the texture pack again.

I've always had CTD's every now and then in skyrim, but at least they aren't as bad with the latest patches now like they were back when the game launched and everyone had to use the Skyrim 4G mod.

Same problem for me. After installing the official texture pack I had a few lock-ups, strange lavender coloration on some objects, as well as the stutter/low fps whenever I exit a building. I never had these issues before. I can't believe it's a memory issue. 3.6 GB of gpu memory and 6 gb of ram. My cards are never stressed, all 4 gpus run @ about 45%.

I like to follow this on Nexus. You have a decent rig and want to get the BEST from Skyrim, don't you?
STEP is an extensive, step-by-step and always updated guide to enhancing TESV Skyrim with the actual best mods, tweaks and settings; the focus is quality, non quantity.
This is a very ambitious project which offers to the "casual" player the possibility to enjoy a heavy modded Skyrim, and to the advanced gamer, the ability to refine and improve his game experience over-the-top.
