Well, as some of you may know, I recently won the z55 from EVGA's Christmas event.
So far I have made some changes, and plan to make some more! (and maybe venture into uncharted territory)

First on my list was to remove the stock intel heatsink they had on and to change it out with my Hyper 212+ from my previous build.

Next on my list was to somehow fix the issue of bad airflow in this case. This case isn't the greatest for air cooling however. :(

Attempt #1

Lowered the 580's temp from ~45 celcius to around 40. Not exactly what i am looking for. Not to mention the CPU temps are at 40 c idle too, but that may be attributed to the fact that its new thermal paste. (note: the door was shut and the addition was the fan in the lower right hand corner. Currently attached with tape due to it being temporary.)

Idea #2

I traced my 120mm fan and placed the template in an area where the fans wont block  view of the hardware, but will provide airflow into the case AND cover up most of the cables!

Now this will be the first time that I will attempt something like this and I was planning on using a drill for the screw holes and since i plan on one day getting grills for it, I wont cut out the whole thing now. Maybe a pattern of holes so air can flow? I believe the material is plastic or something of the sort. Any tips???

I also plan to eventually get a LED strip to put up at the top to light it up a nice blue color, but idk where to look. I found mnpctech for the fan grills (unless anybody has some suggestions) and I am still on the hunt for a nice Blue LED strip.

Any advice would be great! As I said, i'm new to any case modding of the sort past zip tying fans to parts of my old case haha.

I use a Dremel. I know for a fact that they have Disks that are made to be used on plastic. If you dont have one of those, I think holes would do just fine

Dremel is a great tool to have on hand and use. Worth getting for sure.

I was thinking holes for now, and then actually cutting out the whole thing once i get some fan grills in. I was looking at these: http://www.mnpctech.com/BlackIce_Feser_Swiftech_Radiator_Grills.html
    or http://www.mnpctech.com/Honeycomb_Radiator_Grills.html

Do you guys have any other suggestions as far as grills go? I saw that somebody has a custom window/grill cutting service in the FS/FT section.

Thanks, I really appreciate the help guys.

I also got some fans today!

Haha nice. I was also thinking of getting some sort of light system. Like CRT lights or LED. Do you guys know where I could find these to buy? Only difference I know between the two is that one seems to be rigid, whereas the LED's you can really squeeze into tight spots. Is that the jist of it?

Pricey. But does the job great. Also 300mm is 12", so you can judge by which length you need/want.

You could make your own LED array. It's not bad just mostly some simple math and can be designed to run off either your 5V rail or your 12V rail of your PSU. I made a 5 x 7 panel myself that runs off 12V.

Those fan grills are really damn nice too!

Well, guess what! The grills came in today!!!

After opening, I discovered that Kirk had indeed sent me two grills just in case I damaged one :) (he is awesome)

    Now for the cutting!

First, I traced out a template to guide me in my cuts

Then, as I found out that I do not own a dremel, I attempted this:

It didn't work out all that great. So I went and asked my neighbor if he owned one, and he let me use his! (Aren't neighbors great?)

After I cut/sanded I had a little snowstorm in my kitchen.
Well, I guess that's what sweepers are for!

After a good hour of trying to re-adjust my holes so they would align correctly, I finally had everything put together!

At last! My mini mod was complete!

While this may be a tiny little mod to some of yall, this was quite the undertaking for me haha. It was my first time doing any sort of modding to my case besides creatively using zip ties. (not to mention, my first time using a dremel) I did however, learn many new things, such as: Pressure while drilling=cracks. Don't over use super glue to fix cracks. Using acetone to remove superglue overflow makes nasty stains. And last but not least, cutting plastic makes a snowstorm wherever you are working.

Well, I hope you enjoyed seeing my little adventure into the modding world, I hope to do much much more one day :)

It defidently seems to be very long. Maybe it is just because of the large window? Either way I think it is a lot longer then both of my cooler masters cases. I got an Elite 330 and now an Elite 430..

@ Kirk, if ya lived in Florida I would be more then happy to come help ya out with some mod work! Even if it were for free. Every since joining these forums and modsrigs I have been wanting to build computers. I am unable to due to my financial situation but once I get that fixed I can't wait to get into it. I also am going to try and check into getting a job working with computers, more so the hardware aspect of it rather then the software. One of these days I will get back to schooling and try to get my A+..
