I just got a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 cooler for my I7-960 and when I installed it I don't think I tightened the cooler down %100. It is tight just not all the way. I am confident that my TIM was applied properly. When I ran prime 95 last night my temps were 69c kinda high I think for this cooler. When I got home from work I just tried dummy oc to see where I end up and I was pushing past 80c. My question is I want to tighten the HS down all the way and I don't want to pull it off and re-seat it because I am out of TIM, Do you think I should just try tightening it up all the way?

Well got home from dinner and tightened the HS down all the way and that did not change a thing. I am hoping I did not make a bad choice in getting this HS.

That looks like it would be an awesome performing HS... what kind of TIM did you use?

I used IC diamond TIM. I had read so many good review with great results for the ic diamond and the HS ...maybee I am not so confident in my application now. Right now my only alternative is to re-seat the HS with the noctua NT-H1 TIM..ugghhhh

Now, might be a stupid question, but how much did you use? the way you have mentioned that you are now out of tim makes me think you used the whole tube on the heat sink aplication. you should only need a dab the size of a grain of rice. if you get much more than that performance will drop because now the two metal surfaces are not touching together but are only touching tim.

So after reading some posts on here about Dummy oc I gather that it is junk and creates alot of heat and that is what i have been using to test this HS and oc my system. Today I will remove the HS one more time clean it all off and re-apply the noctua T.I.M and try agian with a real oc, but I will have to do some reading.

Look on the innovative cooling website, it will show exactly how much to put on. 0.3mm diameter is the amount to apply.

That looks good, you have to keep in mind how much that will spread when you smash it between two objects.
The temp difference between the two programs is so minimal that it doesn't matter what you use. Just try to keep the Core Temperatures below 85c.

That's pretty false,  Intel stock is TERRIBLE.  First of all, Dummy OC is ridiculously inefficient.  How is the airflow in your case?  Take a picture of your fan setup and your whole case

when applying a little ( which you should) you have to make sure the headseak moves very little you really want to ajust the headsick, stick it then forget abotu it

if you move around the HS too much while installing some parts of the cpu may not have thermal compound on it

When you seat it, put it on the board flat and rotate it clockwise and counterclockwise without moving it on the plane of the table.  This spreads it around in a circle in the middle of the CPU.  And just to verify, you did set it up as push pull with the air flowing towards the back of the case?
