Have you seen an image that's floating around comparing the city space available in SimCity compared to SC4? It's dramatic. If I wasn't on my phone I'd link to it.
EA/Maxis clearly didn't make this with the user in mind. They completely misjudged gamers' desire to be social, which hello we're gamers not that jag Ray William Johnson or whatever.

I just read that a patch that supposedly specifically relates to traffic issues has been released. Try it out and report the findings, please.

It came out yesterday and I can tell you for a fact that it didn't do jack...  if anything it made traffic worse.  I have 150k population and only 1 interstate entrance.  The interstate was backed up to the next city in the region and I'm not exaggerating.  My factories kept closing down because they were out of resources and I checked to see where my delivery trucks were and they were all sitting in traffic outside city borders...

I too have a municipal and city bus system, train station, airport, and railcars but it doesn't seem to matter.

I think the traffic issue is really messed up, but there was one thing I tried to seemed like it helped. I put some Park and Rides in the neighborhoods. Once I did that I dont remember having the same traffic issues anymore.

The game really needs bigger maps. You might not have all this traffic if we had more room to spread things out. Plus the small maps are getting a bit boring as there is only so much you can do with the limited space.
