Good Evening,

I have a EVGA 580 GTX SLI set-up in 2D surround (no 3D).  These are the 1.5 gb models.
I have had a 2D Surround set-up for this last year and it has been working great until tonight.  My set-up was working fine, and I went up to make some dinner.  When I came back down I noticed the display driver error (not responding) starting to periodically appear.  The system would restart the driver then be "ok".

OK until I ran something.  If I ran a game or even windows media center the driver error came up or it crashed the game.  Just sitting at the desktop it seems ok.

On a couple of occasions, I received the following pop-up:
"Nvidia OpenGL Driver
Driver lost connection with the display driver due to exceeding windows time-out limit and is unable to continue.
The application must close.
Error Code: 7"

I had been using the the 285.62 drivers and they had been working for me until tonight.  I tried a clean install of the newer beta drivers (285.79) and the same issues continue.

I have not made any changes to my system recently.  My system specs are in my signature.  Just to clarify I am running a Dell 730x XPS computer with a 1000w power supply plus a supplemental X5 booster.

Temps for both the video cards and system appear normal.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks

Mark

Sounds like something running in the background using OpenGL (probably your TV tunercard)

Take a look at your MSCONFIG (startup tab)
see if you can lose some junk and anything remotely using OGL at the desktop.

Try a full powerdown reboot and some testing

*remember, the 285.62 and 285.79 are using a newer version of OpenGL that may NOT be working correctly with older sofware. Look for a update for your TV tuner card or consider going back to a older driverset with a previous version of OpenGL.

*Since your system is a year old, might be time to remove the cards from the case for a FULL cleaning
(if you have not done so already)

Well, I think I figured out the issue.  It seems the flexiable SLI bridge was not firmly seated on the cards.  I am guessing that the tension in the flexiable bridge caused them to work out far enough to create thge issues I was having.  Perhaps need to look into a hard bridge.

If I order a 3 way one will it work with 2 way SLI?

    Thanks

Yep, 3way hard will work fine for sli if spaced correctly

Never heard of a loose SLI bridge causing a OpenGL error. I will have to add that to my notes.
    Thanks

Well the Open GL error came up a few times but primarily it was just crashing when I ran anything.  I had disabled SLI to test and it worked fine, so I went to check the other card and found the loose SLI bridge.  I had not checked the bridge in some time.  I will get the 3 way one then if it works fine.
