I'm looking to upgrade the hard drive and the RAM in my laptop. I was looking at the WD Scorpio blacks and the Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333 MHz kit but I was wondering if there's anything better out there.

IMO, your HDD selection is the best; otherwise a SSD.

Those look like solid choices. Just make sure your laptop can handle the memory otherwise I don't see much other than an SSD to gain performance.

My laptop currently has 6GB of RAM @ 1333 MHz. It's set up as a 4GB stick plus a 2GB stick which is not how you want to do it.

As for upgrading the HDD I would just install both of them into my desktop and clone the new one correct?

As long as the connectors fit that would be a good idea. You can always get an external case for the laptop hard drive and clone it using the USB tools provided to do the same thing and then swap after the cloning process. That way you'll have the availability to use the older drive again for portable storage. It won't be fast but at those rates in speeds they aren't meant to be fast, just portable.
