When I use my front USB ports it disables my mouse and keyboard. I’m actually starting to think it shuts down all USB ports as well; both front and back. Which, in turn, would result in my mouse and keyboard to stop working. This has happened maybe three or four times in the past so I decided to get some feedback on the issue. My motherboard is, of course, the X58 SLI series.

If my memory serves me correct, I only seem to experience this with my Samsung Focus which uses a Windows Phone 7 OS. That is, these are the only times I can think of when this has happened to me. When I plug the phone into my computer to download videos and pictures. I recently just got a new gaming mouse and keyboard and the problem has still happened once since then. I thought maybe it might of just been that old Microsoft mouse or keyboard I was using.

I am not home at the moment and won’t be until maybe Wednesday (out of town). So, I can’t really check the cables and wiring inside of the rig or troubleshoot the problem until then. However, I wanted to post beforehand to see if anyone has had a similar problem. I hope it’s nothing serious.

Thanks in advance.

Ensure you have the latest BIOs installed and the latest motherboard chipset drivers installed.

Sounds like you might have a short in your front panel wire leads.. Could also just be the phone software...

Test by disconnecting the front header USB connection(s) and use the rear jacks. If it works, its the wires...

This is a very well known issue with many computer cases and the quality of the wires they use.

Yeah, those FP USB ports are just mfg'd by the cheapest bidder, for all the cases, even CM had a bad run of them (mine seem to run fine, so far). The case mfgr's force them to use the cheapest mfg procedures and parts possible, meaning they are not reliable. Does the same thing happen when you use back USB ports instead? No? Then I would suggest you disconnect those FP headers bfr they do permanent damage to your mobo. Just buy a USB hub and use it instead. I have one, but it was leftover from my last computer setup.

    Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

I had the same problem.  It was recommended to me to bump the....IOH Vcore I believe to (some voltage, I believe it was one step up form where I had it) and my problems went away.  Don't take my word for it, but I'm sure someone will see my post and will give the specific setting and voltage needed.   Unfortunately that is from memory and mine stinks. ><

    EDIT:  Ah, ha!  Found it!
