Hello, i ordered a (evga) gtx 470 from ebay, and it arrived with a water block attached. i took off the water-block and attached the air cooler to it. please note i dont have screws for the card so maybe this could have something to do with it. here are pictures: after about 5 minutes of battlefield 3 the temps were at 95 C. my other gtx 470 never gets above 80C so its not a problem with the airflow. any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Your running them in SLI? Sometimes one card runs hotter due to heat rising and all that. Did you use good TIM? What about fanspeed?

Also, the 4x0 series runs just plain HOT. I recall seeing temps hit 90, rather often.

that's the water block
Your pictures do not show as you do not have enough posts to add links yet. you can get around that by adding a space to the www .photobucket .com or something like that. For the stock cooler you attached to it, you will need the stock screws or some pretty good substitutes. The ones around the GPU chip have springs to help with the tension. Also the application of the TIM may cause heat issues. I like to use the pea method myself - put a glob of TIM about the size of a pea right in the center and as the heatsink is tightened into place the TIM spreads out.

Even without pictures, if you don't have screws for the stock cooler, you will need to get them or you can't expect the card to operate at a decent temperature. If it's an EVGA card, you might be able to ask EVGA if they may send you the screws you need. They've been known to do more for people :) If not, I believe I actually have all the screws from one of my old 470's lying around here in a baggy. If they can't send you some, pm me and let me know and I'll find them for you.

Mel I'm not sure how to send you a PM, but if you're interested in purchasing the waterblock (and if it fits on a gtx 480) i would more than happily sell it to you, send me an e-mail at daevilon3@gmail.com
