Been seeing a lot of discussion on this but nothing really concrete - what kind of custom fan curves are we all running on the XC3 Ultra? I find that if I leave everything stock, the card can easily hit 75-80C+ and be quite loud in games. Installed inside a Meshify C Mini w/ 2 x 140mm front fans and 1 x 120mm exhaust (Be Quiet! fans).

I'd like to know this as well.

In my system the XC3 is very quiet, but seems to be at a cost of temps. It's regularly high 70's low 80's in games. Boost clock doesn't go higher than 1755Mhz (which I think is by design).

I'd like to get temps lower, say low 70's at most.

What custom fan profiles are you running? Also are you using EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner to set them?

I’m just waiting for a fix for afterburner and the new drivers. Can’t get any custom curve to save. After trying precision x1 for a year, I really just prefer trusty old afterburner, but with the new driver, no custom curve will stick.

I have a very aggressive custom curve. I have no idea what the engineers were thinking with the default fan curve on this card. It idles nearly 150F (65C) with the fans off. Absolutely ridiculous. With my custom fan curve it idles at 127F (52C) or lower. That is not an insignificant difference.

Is that with the XC3 or FTW3?

You can get a 3080 XC3 to idle at 80 F (27 C)?? That's fantastic. My i7 idles that low even overclocked, but I have it on a water loop. My XC3 3080 has never been that cool. I think it was 120F (48 C) sitting in the packaging in air conditioning before install, no power. lmao. This is the hottest video card I have ever owned in my life.

The most important factors in lowering GPU temps and noise, all other things being equal, are ambient temps and case airflow. A significant difference between this and the last gen is a bit more power draw. That means in the same system this GPU will likely run slightly warmer than an equivalent 2080 Ti.  Also, what fan curve works in one box might be completely wrong for someone else or their preference. I, living in the middle of nowhere, need silence, even with headphones. Others, don't care if it sounds like a jet engine under load...'cause headphones.  Back to the main point: ambient temps and case airflow.

Lion pretty much same system from previous posts u have made. i7 8700k at 33c idle corsair 150 360/// i do see that that case is a bit low on fans and also i see you run max performance on global ,i would change that to adaptive and run on performance on the game tab per game

I went from a 2080ti xc3 ultra and that's a 3 slot card. I can confirm, this one is way hotter. I never even touched the fans on the 2080ti and it rarely hit 70c and it was super quiet. This thing screams and even then itll hit mid 70s with an aggressive fan curve.

this may be a stupid question but is this curve on all three fans?

Afterburner custom fan curves don't take into account memory temps. I wouldn't use them at all.

You can set them low with good core temps but your memory might be cooking.

Here's what I'm using and it seems to be pretty good for my setup. I'm running with a minimum of 25rpm because I don't like to hear the fans tick on and off. I can get idle temps as low as 26c when the system has been idle for a long time. Gaming usually stays below 72 C but I very occasionally go up as high as 77c. I'm using a Corsair 280x case which isn't super awesome airflow wise, but I have a couple 140mm fans blowing from the bottom of the case up into the 3080.

I've switched to the aggressive profile in XC1 Precision but I'm still getting temps around 77C while playing demanding games.

I'm using a Corsair 460x case, which has decent airflow with 3x120mm intakes on the front and a rear 120mm exhaust. I'm also running an AIO on my CPU with 2x120mm fans on the rad, in exhaust.

I've been using the following for the last few months keeping temps in the low 70s under load and 30s at idle. Not sure if it's best to have the fans spinning 24/7 or to just use the Default profile (which will have the fans automatically spin up at the 60c mark) I usually apply the overclock/fan profile just before I play games otherwise rock Default.

    0-40c : 20%
    50c : 50%
    60c : 65%
    65c : 70%
    80c : 80%
    90c : 100%

Case: Fractal Design Meshify S2 exhausting out the top/back.  Corsair H150i cooler in the front in push/pull with it's own fan profile that ramps up under load pushing more air towards the GPU and out the top/back.  Temp in the house is 65-70 degrees.
