I am new to the forum and first would like to say hello
Secondly we bought an Evga GTX 780 for gameplay and editing videos we have a problem with the video editing side normally we use Sony Vegas but this doesn't appear to use the GPU processor apart from the first few seconds so rendering videos has become 10 times longer if it doesn't crash (Which it does) Have even formatted the pc and cannot get any video editing software to work, would anyone have used any video editing programmes that do work or have any suggestions how this can be sorted as my son is pulling his hair out

Which Sony Vegas version is your son using? There should be an option to turn on the GPU acceleration for the video processing in the settings. Also, there should be an option in the encode mode to use GPU only, instead of cpu.

Using Sony Vegas Pro 12
Render Output Format is MainConcept AVC/AAC which under encode mode says use CPU Only, CUDA if available and OpenCL if available and checking under the systems tab says CUDA is available so I'm assuming that it should work. Using a Radeon HD 6950 with OpenCL produced good results with a 20 minute video taking about 22-25 minutes to render out fully but when enabling CUDA on the same video but with the GTX 780 it can take upwards of 2-3+ hours but will eventually crash if left running and the GPU usage goes from 0% to 9% never going any higher.

What is your current specs for your system? You may want to use a benchmark tool (3dMark, Valley, Heaven) to see how well your card is performing, just to make sure there is nothing wrong with your g-card.

I'm not entirely sure what these results mean, hopefully they show that the graphics card is running fine. The only setting I changed was the multi-monitor setting because it wanted to use both but I never run games over both screens. I've also been playing Wolfenstein The New Order on the card and it seems to be running fine on that as well but the problem is the graphics card doesn't seem to be used at all on Vegas.

I've never used Vegas. This was taken from a review. When I had GPU acceleration on, my rendering was 4-6x slower than with it off. This is with a i7 870 + Geforce Titan. Ever since I run with GPU acceleration off. That was with Vegas Pro 12.
I recently upgraded to 13, haven't had a chance to see if it works properly this time around.

It's not a problem with card, but Vegas optimization since 12 barelly use CUDA...well known problem.

Adobe products like Photoshop,Premiere,etc. Sony Vegas should learn from Adobe i.e. the software will automatically disable using your videocard if it crashes  Anyways, if software is using your videocard to speed up things it should at least have a help webpage like Adobe's that tells you what works or not, how to troubleshoot,etc... http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html

Yes daviangel we also contacted Sony absolute waste of time and energy it appears once they have your money that's your lot, hopefully they will sort out the shortcomings soon
