So I have been messing around with the BCLK and no matter what I do I cant seem to get the computer to POST after changing the BCLK... It beeps a few times reboots a couple of times and than I just get a blank screen with the code FF on the display (on motherboard). Anyone have any ideas as to what FF means? Hoping that it will be helpful in pin pointing what I need to adjust to get BCLK to work.

Thanks!

I'm guessing since you're able to change the bclk value the system is working fine with stock settings and only produces the FF after you have saved and exited the BIOS or no?

That is correct. Nothing is wrong with the hardware, just appears to be a bad overclock was just wondering what "FF" indicated to see if it would help pin point the issue with my overclock. Thanks for checking though!

Just messing around with overclocking settings... Adjusting BCLK is something that I have never really messed with in the past and figure now was a good time to see what happens. Any suggestions?

Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x8GB 3200MHz C16 (Model#) Not all models are the same.
Some Memory when setting the XMP Profile Changes the BCLK Setting.
You may want to Set the BCLK to 100 and then set Memory to use the XMP Profile 1 save and restart and go back into the Bios and see if it changed the Default BCLK Setting.

From GGTV-Jon above: Why do you feel you need to adjust the BCLK, what are you trying to achieve?
Not sure why you would want to do this as well.

I am using this Memory and when using XMP Profile 1 it does not change my BCLK Setting.

Looks like the actual model is CMD32GX4M4C3200C16. XMP is not changing BCLK at least not in my case... I was the one changing it. However thus far I have not been able to get the computer to fully post when BCLK is set to anything other than 100. I was just wanting to find out what that error code indicated to see if it would help pin point my OC issue. Any feedback\suggestions regarding BCLK OC would be appreciated if you have any to offer though.

Thank you!

The issue with just throwing numbers at the BCLK is that it's speed has a wide affect - Memory, Mesh, CPU core speed ect. Gone are the days of old where you bump the FSB / BCLK and get a nice little core bump

I actually do have mine bumped but it is something like 100.50, what numbers have you tried to run?

What bios version are you running?

Thanks, I could not find my link to that site. Lots and lots of info on that Site.
FF: CPU cannot initialize, too high CPU or BCLK clock. Can also be caused by power issue or too cold temperature.

Adaptive voltage mode is not recommended in combination with BCLK overclocking. This is because voltage calculation algorithm does not measure actual BCLK frequency, so resulting voltage likely will be too low for CPU frequency point. Only minor BCLK ranges can be used in this mode, otherwise large overvoltage offset is required.

BCLK adjustment, cause 2 power cycles to apply the setting

Unlike consumer platforms (skt LGA11xx), BCLK overclocking on HEDT is very limited, usually just 3-5% from nominal either way. E.g. frequency like 110MHz will never work on Skylake-X CPU. This is all because internally BCLK is linked to DMI/PCIe clocks and those need to be within nominal range to function. Once they go out of spec, CPU loosing connection to PCH and whole thing sits silly in confusion, showing you last possible message "FF" on 80Port, which means "Fully Failed". Any X299 motherboard will do same, this is inherent to CPU/PCH design.

It is not a big problem however, as all HEDT LGA2066 CPUs are completely unlocked and you can overclock CPU, memory and mesh/ring clocks using ratios just with 100 MHz BCLK. Sometimes if you need that last 25MHz, you can apply fractional bump on BCLK, like 100.5 MHz to get desired clocks. Going over 103MHz or below 97MHz would cause lots of problems to audio/network/PCIe devices.

No particular reason, was just something that I have not previously experimented with and found little information on regarding its impact on performance so I figured I would give it a try to see what happens. I was able to get the system to POST and boot into windows after changing some of the settings for the memory (RAM). However tests so far have actually shown a decline in performance it would appear as TiN pointed out that this is best used for fine tuning an OC to get that little extra bump.
