I'm a bit miffed. I sent in an EVGA GTX 1070 for no power, no display, not detected in OS, just no life in it. Tamper evident tape is intact, never taken apart, both serial number stickers present so I sent it in for repair/replacement. They get around to it and deny the RMA because of "missing manufactures (sic) serial number" as well as a bunch of pictures of the GPU. In the 2nd picture, it clearly shows both SN stickers present intact and the tamper evident tape also still intact. They say they can't "validate the warranty". They later said something about a sticker on the frontside of the PCB near the PCI-E connector is missing. I checked another one of my EVGA GTX 1070's and there is a white sticker there but it is also covered in a greasy film and looks wet to the touch. I poked it with my finger and it literally fell right off. It's reasonable to assume that's what happened to that other sticker. It's also long gone, probably blown out of the PC case and sucked up by the vacuum cleaner long ago.

So there was a defect with the video card that caused it to lose power sometime before the warranty expired. Then a separate defect with leaky greasy thermal pads caused a sticker to fall off and disappear, which is used as an excuse to give me the runaround. The original "warranty void if removed" sticker is still there, but they still void the warranty???

There is no "warranty void if removed" sticker. The sticker your talking about is a tamper evident sticker which does not void the warranty. Its only purpose is to let EVGA know whether or not you took the card apart. You are allowed to take the card apart. EVGA just wants to know if you take the card apart so they can double-check that you applied thermal paste and thermal pads correctly, or whatever.

Without being able to see your pictures, I won't speculate any further.

There is a "warranty void if removed" sticker. It says right on it. "Warranty Void if Removed Packaged in U.S.A."

Oh, you are talking about the serial number sticker. Well, without a trackable serial number, the warranty is void, yes. But that is a different thing than a traditional "warranty void if removed" sticker which has the intent of preventing you from disassembling or repairing your hardware.

I thought you were talking about the "EVGA EVGA EVGA EVGA..." circular sticker over one of the screws. The sticker over the screw is a tamper-evident sticker which doesn't void the warranty if damaged or removed.

I never in my wildest dreams would have expected someone to call the serial number sticker a warranty void if removed sticker. "Warranty void if removed sticker" has gained a special meaning which is more than just text.

I've looked into the RMA request, and this card was previously sent in for an exchange by another customer, and was rejected for the same missing sticker. As the warranty was voided on that RMA, it is also voided on this one.

There's not much information here to go by, but it sounds to me like this user purchased this card at a scrap price knowing that there was a likelihood that it wouldn't function.  Buying known-bad video cards at scrap price is treated as a business for some people since it offers the following possibilities: 1) If might miraculously work, 2) the purchaser may be able to repair it, 3) the purchaser may need (or know someone who needs) a component off of the card, or 4) there is the possibility that the card will be replaced under warranty exchange.  In the long term, playing the odds, doing this repeatedly as a hobby, meager gains can be made.

It seems to me, based on this user's response, that this user isn't very invested in this video card.
