Here is a list of some common questions, and answers! Thread will be continue to be updated with more questions and answers.

Q. Instability with some 8GB DIMMs over 2GHz frequency.
A. This is a known issue and is fixed in BIOS V1.04 and later. This issue only affects some 8GB DIMM's when running over 2GHz frequency.

Q. EVGA ELEET software cannot adjust CPU BClock while in Windows Vista or Windows 7.
A. This is fixed in the latest release of ELEET. You can download it at http://www.evga.com/eleet

Q. Disabling ASMedia 3.0 controller will disable LAN ports as well.
A. This is because all these devices run off the PCI-E 0 port. This seems to be an Intel chipset limitation but we are looking at possible workarounds.

Q. Which SATA 6G ports are native to Intel Chipset?
A. SATA 0/1 (2 red ports right above the black SATA ports) are native to the Intel Chipset.

Q. Which USB 3.0 ports are native to Intel Chipset?
A. The bottom USB 3.0 ports (ones closest to DisplayPort connector) are native to the Intel Chipset. Also the onboard USB 3.0 header is native to Chipset.

Q. There are 2 AUX 6-Pin connectors for PCI-E power. Which do I connect?
A. The bottom left corner angled 6-Pin power connector is considered primary, this is because it provides the best location for clean cable management. We do understand that this location may not be compatible with all chassis, so we provide an alternate that is next to the CPU. Please note for SLI configurations at least one of these is REQUIRED.

Q. There are 2 8-Pin connectors for CPU power. Which do I connect?
A. You can choose either one, or connect both for extreme overclocking. When both 8-Pin CPU connectors are used, up to 300W of CPU power is available.

Q. I want to run x16/x16 in 2-Way SLI mode, which slots do I use?
A. You can run x16/x16 when using PCI-E slots 2 and 4. We designed the board layout in such a way that a single GPU will get PCI-E lanes directly from CPU when in PCI-E slot 1, we ultimately found out that this delivers the best graphics performance. The PLX bridge chip is used in 2-Way, 3-Way and 4-Way SLI configurations.

Q. System is not recognizing any of my PCI-E cards in slots 2-5.
A. You need to plug in PCI-E power to one of the 2 PCI-E power locations.

Q. Where can I find the Lucid MVP drivers?
A. You can find the drivers at the EVGA Support page.

Q. EVGA, your red LED's don't match my case colors! And/or I need to wear sunglasses when I power on my PC! Can I disable the onboard LED's?
A. Yup, just flip this jumper to the alternate location, and all LED's are turned off!

Q. How do I disable the onboard DisplayPort connector?
A. If you wish to not use the integrated graphics or Lucid Virtu MVP software you can disable the onboard DisplayPort adapter by going into BIOS>Chipset>System Agent Configuration>Graphics Configuration>Internal Graphics=Disable.

Q. There is an option in the BIOS called "EVGA Performance Tweak." What does this do?
A. This function improves performance in several CPU bound applications. (Most notably, 3DMark 2001)

Q. There is a feature in the BIOS called "OC Mode". What is this and what does it do?
A. This option will disable all onboard controllers! So it is designed strictly for the pure overclocking user.

Q. Which DIMM slots should I use as primary?
A. Use the 2 red slots as primary.

Q. How can I use the onboard voltage read points with my voltmeter/multimeter?
A. Stay tuned, we will make an adapter available separately for this. EDIT: Now Available http://www.evga.com/Produ...aspx?pn=W002-00-000010

Q. How can I prevent my CPU from throttling when I overclock?
A. Disabling a few C-States can lock the CPU frequency. See this thread for more details. In particular, disable C1E, C3, C6 and C7.

Q. Where can I find a list of EVGA Z77 FTW motherboard reviews?
A. Right here! List will be updated as new reviews are posted:

    Good work Jacob.

    Pin out configuration is

    Jacob,
The visual guide lists the 6-Pin power connector at the bottom left of the board as the secondary, and the one by the CPU as primary...... You are saying this is incorrect?

Whats correct? The visual guide or the above by Jacob? The printing on the motherboard itself conflicts with the above information as well.

To be honest it really doesn't matter which one you use as primary or secondary. I suggested bottom left as primary as that is better for cable management.

I agree, was just trying to confirm which is really the primary is all. Not that it makes a damn bit of difference.....LOL.

The overclockers tech review states that triple sli with double slot spacing possible, so we can use slots 1,3,6? and still have 8X-16X-16X ?

Waiting on my board or I would just try it, I'll be running tri-fire though.

Review the article again. It tells you that only slots 2 and 4 are 16x by 16x.

    nice Q & A.

is Lucid MVP working with dedicated video cards or is it only for integrated graphics in the CPU?
is it for Ivy Bridge only? or SB compatible as well?

    thanks.

Jacob you may want to contact newegg and have them update the z77. It is listed as only doing x16 - 1 or x8 - 5

thanks a lot for confirmation!! that is wonderful! I own a 60hz LCD and in certain games at higher FPS I experience screen "tearing", this sounds like a fix right there!

For overclocking is it better to stick with 2 x 8gb or is 4 x 4gb OK?  I know dependent on RAM, speed, timings, etc but as a general rule of thunb, better to stick with 2 sticks?

As I mentioned in the review, once I had the new BIOS I was able to set the memory to 2400 MHz with no problems at all. I have heard of some people getting 8 Gb sticks up to 3000 MHz on this board, but of course YMMV. I'd go with 2X8 Gb.

when running SLI with a x16 x16 configuration, a soundcard is not viable correct? considering the space between the sli config?

Best to stick with 2 memory modules if possible, less stress on the IMC.

Thanks Lvcoyote and Jacob!  I guess I might need to cancel my memory kit then, I ordered 4 x 4 gb.  I jumped the gun a little bit I still haven't decided between X79 and Z77, earlier I was confident on X79 which is why I placed the order.

    Here's another pearl
If a bios is stuck in a loop or you think that it's corrupted and a CMOS reset won't cure it, you can flash the corrupted bios by booting into a  working bios and go through the process of flashing that bios by booting with a memory sticky and then right before you hit Shift Y, Toggle the bios you want to reflash...

So, if bios 1 works and bios two does not, boot into bios 1 with the boot device as the memory stick with the bios files on it, at the C: prompt type FPTdos.bat and when it asks you to press shift Y to flash the bios, toggle the corrupted bios (bios 2) and then hit the Shift Y.  Make sure the bios you want to flash is illuminated red.

Great if a bios gets corrupted....Thanks Jacob!

Is there a issue with the 2400mhz Trident 4gb DIMMs? I cant get it to run anything over 2000mhz not matter what I do. Also wont even run 2000mhz unless I manually enter the memory timings and the XMP profiles don't work either. And I am on BIOS 1.04

Can you try to set ONLY the memory clock and set all timings to auto.

Save and exit, then reboot and go back into BIOS and tweak the timings.

Thanks I have a Silver Arrow and one of my air cooled gpus (three) will be on the top slot. I guess I will have to wait until the amazon.com ships my FTW . The cooler is 147mm wide and using three 140mm fans(Thermalright Ty-14). The Phanteks and Noctua NH-D14 are slightly smaller so if it doesn't fit (the Silver Arrow) at least I can grab one of those coolers.

Sorry for the double post. Silver Arrow fits!, The towers are about 3-5mm from gpu pcb. I pushed my fans a bit on the gpu to prevent the gpu's pcb hitting the tower fins. All three of the fans are slightly kissing the pcb and since the housing is plastic, no worries of shorting the gpu. Time to have fun with my new Z77 FTW

when running SLI with a x16 x16 configuration, a soundcard is not viable correct? considering the space between the sli config?

You can add the soundcard in any other slot.

wouldn't it affect his 16x/16x SLI if there was another device present in slot #1 or slot #6 (only those 2 slots are free with 16x/16x)?
