It will.  I'm not sure what bios will be on it, but downloading the new beta bios and flashing the mb with a sandy cpu definitely made my 3770k work with it.

That's good to hear flybye.

The issue I was having was that my motherboard would give the error message 55.  Which of course is it not recognizing that the RAM is installed.  When I contacted EVGA over the phone, they just stated that it involved me having to get a new bios chip to get rid of the error 55 (once i told them i had the 3770k), which I should be receiving soon since they reopened their wear house yesterday.

This is pretty much a new rig I'm setting up, I just didn't want to let go of my 3770k since I got a good deal on it lol.

It's a brand new chip that I got on sale from microcenter, so if it doesn't end up recognizing the memory again and shows the error 55 again, I guess I'll return it for a new one.

It is in a bunch of different places here:
What is happening is that since the stock bios does not recognize the Ivy's, it also doesn't recognize the memory controller on the Ivy and code 55 spits out.

I can even duplicate the issue right now, too.  I still have the stock bios on bios #1 & #2.  I've only flashed #3.  If I select #1 or #2, I get code 55, but when I select #3, I start up just fine.

Ah I see, yeah it's a pain.  I have never replaced a bios chip before, so hopefully it all works out in the end once I receive the new chip.

I have a i7 3770k processor (ivy bridge) that didn't work with this mother board.  (silly me, I didn't check that the motherboard only worked with sandybridge)

So now that their wearhouse is open again, they are sending me this new bios chip to replace the current one.  To my understanding this should fix my RAM error 55 and my computer should be able to start up finally?... Since this says that it supports ivy bridge?

Thank you if anyone can give me clarification.

I'm in the same situation. I plopped in a i5 3450. Just when I thought the the board might need RMA'd i noticed the board was sandy and cpu was ivy.  I'm too impatient to call them up for an updated bios board and found a cheap cpu off newegg just to get the board updated. then, i'll throw in the good chip. Sigh...

Eh don't kick yourself over it.  I saw the board at a great price and didn't even realize the Sandy only part, either.  I ended up buying the cheapest celery off ebay for like $40.

Yup. I found a Celeron for $50 on newegg. My only concern now are the potential bugs with the latest bios update.  I saw the thread about it's release and a bunch of people complaining about issues. Have you all been having issues after the update too?  Maybe i was just reading the complainers thread.

Almost everyone, if not everyone, that bought from newegg during the sale had issues with the bios.

I won't lie.  The bios does have a few quirks to it.  I'm still on R15, though.  Didn't see a need to go to R16.  I have 2 video cards in SLI and I'm cruising at 4.7ghz.  I'm not complaining.  There are a few settings which I can't disable that possibly could get me to 4.8, 4.9 or maybe even 5.0, but at 4.7, I'm really not going to whine LOL.  I've had no BSOD, and my games are running buttery smooth.  I probably won't upgrade the bios until they come out with the full release.  Why bother screwing things up with another beta if my beta works now.

Hey so my bios chip came in, I installed it and now computer runs!  I can get to the bios and everything, now I have a new problem.

It says that there is no hard disk detected.  This is a weird situation to me because I am using the same hard drive that I used yesterday and it worked fine in my other build.  Also in the SATA settings, it even shows that the hard drive is being picked up and that I can select to boot from it in the settings.  So my question is, why is it not booting and coming up with this message that its not being detected upon start up?  When windows starts to boot (after the windows come together) it just blue screens and such.  Please help :D

The z68 FTW has an issue with the no hard drive detected, but it should still boot. Also, note that you cannot recycle a hard drive from a previous build. You would have to do a fresh install of windows onto that hard drive in order for it to work.

Yeah that's what I thought, thanks!  Guess I will reformat.  What do you mean with it having a problem with the hard disk not being detected?  When I reformat will it still display that message?  And is it a bug where it will still run fine but display that message anyway?

I've seen a few people complain about that, including me. It doesn't really affect the computer any ways, it just slows the boot down D:

Hey, as long as it boots I will be happy.  Plunked in over $650 for the new build and I really want it to get working haha.  Don't really care about boot time at this point, and maybe they will fix it at a later date.

I Sill have my Z68 SLI but was not using it. I decided to throw it in and try this update. Windows would start to boot then BSOD. J decided just for the heck of it to let it keep trying to boot a few more times incase windows was just trying to change things with the drivers already in the system. after a few BSOD boot loops windows actually booted and actually reinstalled all the hardware on the system. People just need to be patient just because it does not work the first time.

Not sure about the new BIOS, but the A05 had a setting to disable launching from the OPROM.  Disabling this keeps the system from searching for drives to boot from and will just use your BIOS BOOT settings.

@ Wearl85
So were you able to use XMP profile setting on RAM and things like that, the other problem I had was the BIOS would completley lock up when I went to the menu Hardware Monitor\Temperature Montitor or something like that?
  • I am caching an SSD which also makes it that much more complicated
    • It bluescreens in AHCI mode & RAID mode.

Hi @Flybye , were you able to change your vcore?  I'm using an i5 3570k and the Z68 Sli Micro with R15 Bios.  My Vcore is 1.283 in the Bios but when I check using Eleet or CPU Z after I boot i'm hovering at .88 which seems very low.

I try to change my Vcore in bios but it only allows a + Offset or - Offset and then I can choose the number to use (not that I know what any of that means).  I can't manually choose a voltage.  I hear about 1.1 is a good voltage for this i5 cpu.  Generally I just leave the voltage as is for now and use the Eleet optimized frequency and bump it up to 4.0 ghz.

Not sure if it is worth the possible complications of trying to flash P16.

Yup.  Eleet usually registers between 1.29 & 1.316v.  My bios shows my vcore hoping between 1.22 & 1.3.

I used to think the offset was .1v, but that is not really the case.  My + Offset is 100 to get me to the 1.316v.  I never saw the stock bios.  I've read people say the beta is a bit different from the stock bios.  Especially when it comes to changing your voltage, so I'm not worried about it for now.  I just got into the habit of going up in increments, rebooting into windows and checking out my vitals with Eleet.

Well I can't boot up with the new BIOS the factors that may be the issue are I use Intel SSD caching, a Sandy CPU and Windows 8 so...

I can overclock on the r16 but i get worse cpu scores the more i overclock... Anyone else have this issue?

the original bios i just set the mult to 42 on my 2700k and left voltage auto. Passmark score @ 4.2ghz = 9,000
R16 BIOS 4.2ghz and 1.31vcore = 8,400 cpu score
Any higher clock speed shows larger cpu score losses.
Confirmed the cpu speed is slower with other benchmarks as well..

my old 2600k and asus p8-z68 v pro hit 11,000+ in minutes of overclocking. Last evga mobo i buy. worst part is i have a now useless XSPC RX360 and D5 vario $300 liquid cooling setup and cant even get the cpu to overclock.

check to make sure your cpu isn't downclocking itself during the benchmarks, almost acts like turbo boost is running in reverse, some of the thermal throttling settings in the bios helped reduce this for me, and you can also try a program called throttlestop to see if that helps you

Thanks for the reply, i wish it was that simple!

Double checked the cpu is staying at the same clock speed. I really dont understand it. something about the R14 and R16 BIOS.
Only thing i could think of is that it isnt getting enough voltage somewhere on something.. Or some BIOS option is messing crap up. really a bummer.

I'm not sure if it's the same in your case but cpu-z, throttlestop and eleet all showed different clock speeds that my cpu was currently at, of course that meant 2 out of 3 were wrong, they also reported different temperatures, definitely the strangest board i've overclocked, lowering my voltage as far as i could stably do so helped a lot too, the higher my temps were and the sooner it throttled down, 4ghz never throttled at all, 4.5 goes down to 4.2 for me on a 2500k unless i run throttlestop when all 4 cores are under max load, as soon as the benchmark stops it would bounce back to 4.5

every ask your self's that maybe that BIOS is for Ivy Bridge Only, there for you flash one BIOS with R16 for when Ivy Bridge is installed. and switch back to A05 for none Ivy Bridge CPU (Sandy Bridge).
IDK that is my logic, i will not Update my BIOS until the problem is solved or i buy a Ivy Bridge CPU...

Ok i checked it out and got throttlestop 500a, it reports the same mult, and core speed as eleet. benchmarked with it turned on and it stayed the same clock speed. still getting crap for scores. i switched back to the A05 bios as well. I did notice there were max wattage options on the R16 bios though. 1/8 watt increments.  curious about that.

  Updated:

A05 bios is yeilding me higher scores from overclocking finally. but unfortunately still cant change vcore voltage to manual. 4.3 is max i can get on auto voltage

If your computer can't boot Windows, 0x00000124 (win7) or WHEA uncorrectable error (win8).
Try set you Vcore manually!!! This BIOS is bad.

Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R16 Released (Ivy Bridge Support) 2013/01/11 04:35:24 (permalink)
I put this BIOS on my system without reading the forums.  I should have read the forums first.  I have the z68 SLI Micro and this BIOS almost bricked my board.  Once it was installed, my system destabilized and Win8 would crash repeatedly after loading.  The manual for the board says the toggle for the secondary BIOS is by the board speaker, it's not.  It is actually located below the vga card, hidden from view if you have your video card installed.  Tech support wanted me to reset the bios with the CMOS jumper and called that the switch for the BIOS.  Luckily someone smarter posted the correct answer in the forums.

Once I was able to switch to the secondary BIOS, I ran into Latency issues with sound/video.  This board already cannot handle USB 3.0 and the onboard audio has issues to, so I use an older PCIE sound card which has superior sound.  The board stabilized with the flashing of the secondary BIOS with the A05 build, but with the same video/sound stuttering as before and without the ability to use USB 3.0 without causing major performance issues.

I bought the board for the USB 3.0 ability and size.

I switched the board back to the 016 BIOS on the primary and loaded the machine, it was unstable and Win8 continued to crash.  It was by luck on the fourth try that I was able to flash the A05 build onto the primary without the system crashing.  Shut down, reboot, load up and the system is now stable and I have no more video/audio stuttering with Win8.

I would love to be able to use USB 3.0 without it causing major performance problems with my system.  I was hoping this update would have corrected it.  This board has been defective from the first day I installed it, but once stabilized and without using the onboard audio/USB 3.0 options, it is solid.

Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R16 Released (Ivy Bridge Support) 2013/01/11 10:27:10 (permalink)
For the people with hard drive detection errors, change the bios option in the boot section to use current instead of force bios. It will get rid of that error.

Anyway just popping back in and well still on the same ole beta bios would have thought for sure they would have a final version by now... you got to be kidding me. I think they just said f it and gave up. Im still having to run stock any oc I get all sorts of errors and BSODS. This BIOS still blows.
