I updated my bios with the latest. I am able to boot when default configuration is loaded. However, when I load my personal configuration my boot fails. Sometimes it shows "no keyboard detected" error (I use usb keyboard). I plugged in a regular keyboard, still no boot.

Whenever updating your bios you should never use previously saved profiles. Start from 0 and rebuild your new profiles. First load defaults, reboot, the save in each profile slot to remove old profiles. Then build new profiles.

I have the same issue with a usb keyboard.  I attributed the problem to my KVM switch.  I also found that it resolves if I unplug the usb keyboard, then replug, then hit ctl-alt-del.  The system reboots and drops you into setup.

If this is happening to many others, perhaps there is something amiss in the BIOS where it loses track of existing USB connections.

I get the "no keyboard" error halt during POST, but only about once in 20 cold boots.  Also the occasional hang on S3 sleep (fans running, HD LED on solid) with about the same frequency :(

This with 1.0 and 1.1 boards.   No overclock except running 1600 memory at spec.

I hope everybody that complains here about S3 is also emailing EVGA regularly like I am.

They are polite about telling me how sorry they are and how soon they will fix the issue... but they never do.

This was my first EVGA board and probably my last.  I don't hate it... it does MOST of what I need it to do.  I'll use it for 2 more years probably.  But it (EVGA) certainly didn't live up to the hype.

This is turning into a joke.  On 11/20/09 (over 40 days ago) I received the following email:

[Matt,

I was told there were a few changes to S3 with that bios update.  I will work on replicating the issue in house and getting a fix.  I do apologize about the delay I have been out of the office since last Friday.

Jake

This was in response to me clarifying that the latest BIOS rev did not address any of the S3 problems, after being told for some inexplicable reason that it did.

Since that email (which assures me I will get a followup soon), I have politely fired off 3 separate responses (roughly 1-2 weeks apart each), NONE of which have so much as garnered a reply (I've copied multiple EVGA contacts I have on each email, in case Jake is still out of office somehow).  How can you have customer service without communication?

I can't be completely certain, but if you weren't totally and wholly ignorant and stupid, you probably would not be having any problems whatsoever.

Cute.  I am having a problem with my BIOS that multiple other users on this forum have reported and replicated.  Every sleep cycle, certain voltages (namely VREG) cycle inexplicably, and after a certain amount of sleep cycles, it locks up.  Again, it's been reported and replicated multiple times.

So, EVGA personally replies to my emails and tells me this will be fixed soon, and then all of a sudden stops communicating with me for 6+ weeks.

I report the facts here, and you call me "ignorant and stupid?"  Grow up.  Or at least qualify your insults.

That is the stupidest post I have seen in a long time around here...What a way to start the new year! I will watch out for your posts in future and run the other way!

@the111: I am in the same boat as yours. I do make it a point to raise this issue whenever I can. Evga really needs to address the issues surrounding S3. Both me and the111 have reproduced exact same symptoms with exact same sequence of steps. Its not hard to reproduce this problem. And in my books, once the problem is reproducible, its solved! So, this is pure lack of support from EVGA.

As you probably determined, you were hung. Try re-writing your CD.

Re-burned E758_SZ2Z.iso by double-clicking it into Nero, which reported a good burn. Still hangs with STARTING CALDERA DR. DOS, using two different optical drives. Current BIOS is at defaults. I'm in over my head. Any help apprieciated.

Dave in the past I had some problems with Nero. Download  IMGBurn which is a free program http://www.imgburn.com/. When you use it make sure Verify is checked. Give it a try and see how it goes.

On the off chance that anyone has a Plextor 880SA burner, they should download the latest firmware from their website.  I had difficulty making a reliable burn of anything before I did that, and have had better luck afterward.  Twice now, for two machines.

why would you download "2c" when this bios is "2Z"?

Have you tried re-downloading the ISO?  (too lazy to search up-thread to see...)  It's rare but its happened to me: corrupt download that produces a burnable image that doesn't execute.  A Fedora dld actually ran 50% through an install before failing.  Right dld byte count, but corrupt somehow.

I wish EVGA would post the checksums for the ISOs.  Or do they - somewhere?

BTW, I use Nero daily and don't have burning issues - ISOs or otherwise.  Not that it helps...

Z.

If you want to try another application, CDburnerXP works well - and it's free. They have an iso-burning tutorial as well if you need it. Oh, and don't be fooled by the 'XP' in the name - I just used it last night on Windows7 64-bit.

This file came down zipped, am I to unzip it then burn it on a CD, or just burn the zipped file?

unzip.. should be an .iso file inside. extract the .iso file, then burn to CD/DVD.. not a normal burn, an iso image. Use CDburnerXP (it's free - see my previous post) if your current burning software is giving you problems.

**edit - see next message - should not be a zip file..

..actually.. where are you downloading it from that it comes in a zip file? It does not come in a zip file from EVGA...  HERE is the link for the EVGA BIOS version SZ2Z.iso for the X58 - 758 motherboard...

Winrar by default sets an association with iso files, and they will show up as a winrar file, when in fact they are not...

There is nothing to unzip

Point your image burning program to the downloaded .iso file, and burn it as an image. ImgBurn is very good for this and is freeware. You can get it here:  http://www.imgburn.com/
There are other burning apps out there as well that will do it.
DO NOT try to unzip it.
DO NOT try to burn as a data file.

Burn it as an image or iso file, it will create a bootable cd with the bios contained in it. Then simply insert cd, reboot and go into bios, set the first boot device as cd rom, save and exit, it will reboot and boot from the cd. You " may" get a message to press a key to continue to boot from the cd so watch the post as it tries to boot, or it may just automatically boot from the cd.
Once it boots it will load the flash program, and prompt you - then off you go... When it is done, I think it will say something like " press F1 to restart ", or something like that. Do not do that, follow the instructions at the bios download link - just power off the system, power back on, enter bios, load defaults, save and exit - and your done ( well with exception of loading your user defined settings of course ),

Best of luck,

Be sure, and load defaults both prior to flashing, and after flashing...
