Hey guys, this guide is very useful, and I think I might overclock my PC... I havent OC'd a PC for like 4 years now so I wanted to check something.. In regards to this section: " 3. Next we will go under "Memory Feature" and adjust my memory to it's specifications. In my case, I am running 1600MHz memory so I will make the following adjustments: - Memory Frequency to 2:8.
- Memory timings adjusted properly per memory specifications.
- This will give me 1600MHz memory. (200x8)
- Set the tRFC Setting to 74
" I have OCZ Platinum PC3-12800 DDR3 Ram 6gb kit 7-7-7 @ 1.65v I'm not sure what my settings here would be for my RAM? And also, same goes for this setting as well: "CPU Uncore Frequency to exactly double my memory multiplier, in this case 16x." All a tad confusing... :( Can anyone help me out? Cheers

Cheers Set the tCL timing, tRCD timing and tRP timing to 7 if you're running it at 1600 MHz. Use a 2T command rate, auto tRFC setting and I don't know what the tRAS timing is supposed to be for your RAM. Look at your RAM's product page and it should be listed. If your memory has an XMP profile, then enabling it will set the RAM to its rated specifications. As for the uncore frequency, it needs to be set to double your RAM speed (or 2x+1). If you run your RAM at 1600 MHz, then your uncore frequency should be 3200 MHz. To calculate uncore frequency you must use the following equation. BCLK/QPI Frequency x Uncore Multiplier = Uncore Frequency So Jacob, in the first post, had 1600 MHz RAM and a 200 MHz BCLK clock to begin with. So he needed a 16x uncore multiplier. 200 MHz x 16x = 3200 MHz = double the RAM speed

Hey guys i'm pretty new here, however I've been an evga customer for while, I have a Evga Classified 4-way sli board (E762) and I'm running a Gulftown Core i7 980x, I'm trying to push my Cpu to 4.0ghz using a Zalman 9900CNPS NT Cooler could you guys let me know if these are alright? These are my settings. 134 x 30 = 4010MHZ Vcore = 1.3250 (Vcore Idle = 1.317, Load = 1.329) Temps Idle @ 19 - 22 Load with Prime95 goes all the way up to 80c. Please let me know if i'm in the clear with settings, i'm using the latest (77) Bios.

Hey, so I have been through dozens of Overclocking walkthroughs, I am not an amateur (absolutely not a Pro) and I am having a lot of trouble getting stable clocks of ~4ghz on my 965 EE. I understand that it could be an issue internally (such as electro-migration), I was just wondering if anyone has a FTW3 BIOS-77 walkthrough that could help me out a little bit. I am running stock currently. I am able to post and load windows at 4ghz, but about 30 seconds into prime it BSODs. My temps at 100% jumped to ~80c. Stock idle temps are ~25-30c, and stock full load are ~65c Thank You!!

An update to this thread would be awesome if there are any new options via bios or software updates. Seems a little dated in my opinion.

HELP ME SET UP BIOS TO 4Ghz on EVGA X58 3X SLI, i7 920 C0/C1, HyperX 12GB (3x4GB) Take a look at these bios settings and help me figure out if there's anything wrong with my setup. I can't get up any more than 3.6Ghz. It seems to be stable at 3.52Ghz 24/7 but couldn't get through stress test (linX, IBT, prime95). Pictures of bios settings below is at 3.4Ghz that works via those tests. FYI, i tried with 9-9-9-24 (default) memory settings with uncore frequency at x16 for any settings (which was recommended over auto) that's higher than 3.4Ghz. can't think of anything that's out of whack compared to how others are running this chip on this board... any help would be appreciated...

Temps hover between 70 - 75 full load, so I have to wait for my new block to come in before I push further... Couldnt find a 1366 mounting kit for my HeatKiller anywhere...

(I'm a complete newb when it comes to OCing) I follow the guide exactly (i have the newest bios from EVGA), and all I get is a black screen, my 5970s fans running at max, and then a 1 second post beep code. I have 0 problems running the ram at spec (8-8-8-24-74) or using 'dummy OC' on the mobo to bump to 3.5ghz, but I want more!! This is a VERY old guide, ment for the early C0 920 chips from 2 years ago. You should NOT use any of the voltages listed on your 940 (you will damage it) Reset BIOS to defaults and get your voltages back to safe values.... Then read up on CURRENT information about your I7 940 and what kinds of voltages can be used. This guide is NOT for the CPU you are running, and lists voltages that could damage your CPU

Dude power down your system and reset ur bios( press physical button on your mobo), after you do that power up your system and make sure that worked.
Don't oc ur system till you learn more about it. You might have permantely damaged your chip like I did following the wrong oc guide. Find a specific guide for your chip.
I had to buy a new chip because of my mistake, I hope you won't have to after this.

Are you saying that those guides for D0 dont pertain to the C0? The reason I'm asking is because I have an i7 920 C0 from a few years back I am using. I did not realize that the voltages differ between the 2 is this true? The OC steps given in this guide seem to ramp up the volts and clocks a little too much too fast if you know what I mean... -Devildoc

Hey, I have a i7 920 DO and it needs a little bit more volts then most D0's since it's an older one. I've got it running using this guide but lowered the vcore since it was too much, I set it at 1.35v and it seems quite stable at 4.2. My question is I have 12GB of this ram. http://gskill.com/products.php?index=110 It's rated for 1.5 and I have Vdimm set as 1.65 as per the guide, and running at 1600mhz, should I lower it down to 1.5v? Thanks. Also other then the vcore did the other voltage values in this guide seem too high? If I can keep lowering my vcore and leave everything else that would be perfect.

Run the memory at it's rated vDimm, there's no reason to run it higher unless its not stable or you want to try and tighten up timings or increase frequency.

Ram is pretty much just like everything else, less voltage results in less heat, less power consumption (well I guess it could draw more amperage and the same resulting wattage but that's beyond the point), and longer life. If it will run undervolted then there's no negative to running it that way. As for the discrepancy between the stick and the website, I'd go with the stick. It's possible that Gskill has changed the sku slightly and that new sticks run on slightly lower volts, I'd go with whats on the ram itself. I've seen monitors for example where one has a ips panel and the other has a lower quality panel but are otherwise identical and the part numbers might be as similar as 32HD7985A76 and 32HD7985H76.

I used it on mine...work like a charm. Just did some fine tuning to it and I was able to lower the voltages in a couple of places. YMMV.
