I am getting the same/similar here on a 758 board. Mine is consistent with garbled text throughout POST. Trying to flash back to 78 here..

I burned the ISO on a dvd-r and had no issues when flashing.
Just out of curiousity are you guys that are having issues loading defaults prior to flashing?  After the flash i unplug my machine when it powers down then wait a minute plug it back in clear CMOS then boot up.  Done it this way 3 times now without issues.

Yep same here, I keep CD-R's on hand it seems just for BIOS flashing now, I also do Reset to Defaults, reboot, flash, clear CMOS, boot up, Reset to Defaults, then go on about my business.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 80 BETA Released 2011/03/29 21:06:05 (permalink)
Just flashed BIOS 80, and everything seems to be working just fine. Overclock settings remained the same, and everything works exactly as it did before.........and I mean exactly. Absolutely no change in RAID array speed or anything. I updated all the drivers, and everything.

Oh well, I was kind of hoping for a performance boost, but at least it's working without a hitch.

For those with the garbled screen, can you provide your system specs?

@Jacob:

I have TWO questions:

Q1: Is this BIOS space issue resolved on EVGA P67 boards ? I mean are we going to end up in the same situation with new boards as well ?
Q2:Are you gonna make list of compatible RAID cards for EVGA motherboards ? I hope you figured out that there are a lot of people who are using their computers for other things than benchmarking.

many thanks
Mirko

Dusted off my E759 and flashed to bios 80, 920,980,990x cpu's tested and everything seems fine.

Didn't notice any boost in SSD though

edit: Forgot to enable write back cache..

Definitely better!

Before flashing, I recommend going in your BIOS and taking a picture of every single page (no flash).  Then after update, load defaults and restore all your settings by looking at your camera.

There seems to be a text bug on boot.  The Intel RAID controller flashes by faster than usual, then JMicron1, JMicron2, and under the JMicron2, the rest of the Intel RAID listing shows up.  Seems just a glitch though.  Everything works fine so far.  I have the 760 board.

P67 will not be affected by this due to the fact it uses AMI BIOS.

Yes, we are looking to see if we can Clear the screen after JMicron loads. (On E770 it shares the screen with the Marvell controller)

I just got to say that i have been a loyal ASUS customer for the last 13 years or so but i switched from a Rampage II Extreme to a E756 because the price was nice and i needed an mATX board, and it was actually alot faster than the RIIE .
I flashed the bios 80 yesterday (had 78) and did a clean win7 x64 install on 2 Intel x-25-v 40's in RAID 0 and it works really great, went from 540p to 566p in AS ssd, and much faster bios POST. From now on i'm sticking with EVGA

I wish there was a EXE file, I like to use Floppies rather than CD's. to do my BIOS flashing.

You can take an older floppy, delete the existing .bin file and put this one on. Then change the autoexec.bat file to reference the new file.

I got it!! I had to pull a SATA add on card I had and then it worked. Hopefully I can sort it out to be able to use that again.

Installed to 759 and all went smoothly and now my S3 resume works.  It has always never really worked correctly and after installing Win. 7 SP1 it would stop on 01 but now it works perfectly. Don't know if this is the new bios or just a coincidence.  Thanks EVGA.

I only update the RAID ROM to have it totally destroy my RAID set up.  Good thing I did a disk image before the ROM flash.

MOBO:

EVGA E758

I have no idea why this happened.  I went back to bios 78 and it was fine.  Reflashed 80 and again my RAID is...poof gone!

I used two methods of flashing to see if it was dependent on the type of flash.  Same thing happened either way.

Install methods used:

CD
USB thumb

I ended up going back to 78 just to play it safe for now.  I did have the odd symbols in the bios too for a moment but once I reflashed back to 78 it was gone.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 80 BETA Released 2011/03/30 05:57:17 (permalink)
Jacob,

I installed the new beta last night and "Wow!" what a difference this new BIOS makes.  My E760 boots "way" faster!

No problems installing the update.  I reset my BIOS to default values, flashed the BIOS from CD, unplugged my power cord, hard reset the CMOS, reconnected the power, powered on, reloaded the default values, reset the date and time, then customized as necessary for my configuration (and my overclock).

I have 3x SSD in a RAID 0 configuration, and I have 3x 2TB HDDs (also in RAID 0).  I experienced no problem booting my existing Windows 7 x64 partition, and all data stored on my GPT volumes is still intact.  All in all, I'm very pleased.

Thanks!

I did a quick test on the memory bandwidth, can I cannot see any difference in memory latency or bandwidth from v78 to v80 using Sisoft.

I can confirm that. Used AIDA64, the latest version, everything's perfect!
Aside from Intel AHCI ROM replacing Phoenix AHCI ROM...
Will we see a VT double pump fix in the next release? I remember it was fixed at some point (and the fix worked for me), but it was rolled back due to not working in some cases. So can we have that implemented once again?

Anyone having issue with RAID CONFIGURATION on ICH10?  I'm not seeing my raid at all (not even in bios.....
I will stick with 78, if no solution provided.

30 plus minutes LOL still blinking at the same screen "HELP"

This seems to happen from time to time - not restricted to this BIOS.  I wonder if it is a KBD vs BIOS issue somehow.  Anything unusual about your keyboard?  Try a wired keyboard, maybe?  Or just _any_ other keyboard?

Just (another) WAG,

So, if you go to
Onboard PATA/SATA Device

You can't set to RAID? Is that what you're saying?

Thats really odd. Press the "pause break" key when that screen comes up. That will freeze the screen so you can read the whole message. Mine gave me no problem at all after flashing to 80.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 80 BETA Released 2011/03/30 08:17:01 (permalink)
Bios 80 released, good news :)

Some questions:

* Between the Intel/Phoenix AHCI BIOS in BIOS 80 and the Intel RAID ROM in AHCI mode (aka, no drives set in a RAID) -- which would provide better performance? Has anyone benchmarked the two?

* Does flashing the BIOS delete the 8 saved OC setting profiles?

Thanks in advance :)

Also, one for Jacob: still holding out for the double-pump with VT enabled fix. I know the priority was the ROMs in BIOS 80, but don't want this slipping off the radar for the 'what to fix next' list :)
