You can. but it wil cost you about 2% in performance with a 16X card, (you would loose nothing with most 200 series cards) as 8X is more than enough ( with the exception of the 295 )

You could, but one would run x8. It's tight and with air cooling it will probably cause the cards to get a little bit toasty.....

Bummer. I have two GTX 470 and they are currently in slot 1 and 3 so they are next to each other. These cards produce alot of heat, trying to figure out a way to lower the heat.

I have the backplate on both my 580's and my 295's as well, but for me it was more for cosmetic reasions than cooling, Other than acting like a heat sink, I do not see them as an affective heat dispursment tool, and do not see how haveing air holes could cool better than having the back exposed to air, and thus more air flow. However, the backplate is what you see if you look into a side panel, and it does protect the side of the card. The brackets the back plates, for cosmetics yea, as a cooling solution, not so much. Now perhaps if they were made out of copper, and had contact with the back of a GPU, or fins for air flow. I am sure there are those that will disagree with me, but thats my 2 cents. ( On a side note, If you do go the back plate route, or bracket, keep the standard screws , and acceseries, If you ever do RMA , you are responsiable for returning the card to factory condition. )

No sorry, I always get my acceseries off Products/accesires, above, but do not see anything directley referanced as a 470 back plate. Not sure it will help any, but the part # is M020-00-000162

I hope this link help as I was wondering the same thing since I own a 790i ultra and has 3 pcie x16 slots so I am able to use the 1st and 3rd slot helping keeps things apart and cooler. well I just purchased a x58 ftw3 and I know only 2 pcie lanes are x16 ,3rd is only 8x. (if you dont want to click on link , according to the review/testing done there is very minimal difference in FPS drop/increase about 1-5fps more on the 16x/16x setup then the 16x/8x sli setup using games like crysis, cod etc..) 16x/16x sli vs 16x/8x sli review: http://hardocp.com/article/2010/08/16/sli_cfx_pcie_bandwidth_perf_x16x16_vs_x16x8/1 enjoy..

I was just wondering what the difference in performance would be. Even the though it is a minimal difference this determines weather if I should buy a pci-e soudcard or pci.
