Dolby Digital Live was introduced with the Intel 915 chipset and support continues with today's modern motherboard chipset. It requires a single digital (S/PDIF) connection. It s a purely digital scheme, as opposed to analog, that game developers use in there game code to deliver audio discretely to each individual channel (R L C RR RL & LFE). It (DDL) is not a matrix surround (software/analog) commonly found on usb headsets with only two speaker drives to emulate the same sounds. In order to use DDL your headphones would need 6 speaker drivers (3 each ear) and discrete inputs for each of these channels coupled with a sound card that has discrete outputs for the same. In order to be able to use the DDL features of the ALC889 you would have to use the S/PDIF out which will enable the feature through your control panel and connect that to a HT Receiver that can decode DDL. I hope this brief explanation helps.
