Not going to lie, the Dark not being available until October stings a bit. I'm hoping I can hold out until then. Who knows, by then I may be thinking of just going Z370....

People be patient I heard Intel will use flux solder for next batches or at least for i9 models. If someone don't want to wait ASUS Rampage VI Apex is ready.

While I would love for this to be true, I just don't see Intel being that stupid. They may have a soldered IHS for the 12c and up Sku CPU's, but to turn around 3 months after launch and update the product like that would be a real bad look unless they were willing to swap out the CPU's everyone currently bought. I don't see that happening. Of course they could also offer one of their average SSD's to existing X299 CPU owners, but again I just don't see it. If you've got a source, please share it. I'm also MOST curious about what they do with the IHS on the 8700K. My gut says they stick with that awful TIM and take their lumps. I mean they can't offer a $400 I7 with soldered IHS and still charge upwards of that for higher TDP X299 stuff with an inferior IHS bonding solution. They've done the wrong thing with the TIM and they've boxed themselves in.

i7-6900K used from Ebay. OC to 4.5GHz until Intel Next Gen Core show up for new socket. Difference from i7-7820X max 7-10% for same clock. Advantage of i7-7820X small performance improvements, advantage of i7-6900K 40 PCI-E lanes, flux solder better temps. Everything what you see now is finished products before AMD launch Ryzen. Trying to improve situation they made some mistakes and now Xtreme platform look much worse than X79 and X99. Small L3 Cache, thermal paste, 28 PCI-E lanes on 600$ worth CPU. And that's not everything, Intel want and owners of Xtreme X299 platform to separate on poor people who pay up to 1000$ and get thermal paste, and good customers who pay 1300-2000$ who maybe after all and huge debate deserve flux solder, not because Intel want that and respect them, because pressure is to high and because they think that could sell 500-1000 samples more if they change that and finish 0.5$ worth flux solder instead thermal paste. That's disgusting and completely destroy look of Xtreme platform. And i7-8700K... He will be launched with Z370 chipset, Kaby Lake refresh and he will fit in same socket and after 6 months replaced with new chipset maybe even socket 1151 will be replaced for better performance of Cannon Lake. Or what... What they plan... People thought they will present Coffee Lake they show up with Kaby Lake refresh. Maybe you think new socket is far away and need to pass years, but with i7-6900K or i7-6950X you will have only 7-10% lower performance all the time until new socket show up.

I would have agreed with you up until oc3d posted their vid on the Asus Rampage Apex and revealed that it was the first X299 board that scaled with memory speeds. In the end, the IO and memory speed improvements are the draw on X299. The idiotic IHS choice and the cache redistribution are less appealing for all but power users. Countering this is AMD who at every turn have a spot to take a jab at Intel. Price, PCI-E lanes, continuity of CPU sockets, Thermal performance, Power Consumption, etc etc. I agree that Intel has done an amazing job of shooting themselves in the foot, but I also think that they'll get their poop in a group shortly and I think that will largely be the 8700k. I'd also agree that X299 is less appealing to enthusiasts right now vs X99 was at launch as it seems more ripe with teething issues. I'm personally on the fence about getting a 7900X delidded, an 8700k delidded, or just swap in a 6950X for my 6850K when I can find it for $7~800. For now, I'll just revel in the fact that I have two FTW3 Hybrid 1080ti's just humming along and giving me glorious FPS.

AndreTM As I can see from what Vince posted on his Facebook page, they changed few thing on the Dark board from its presentation at Computex: (look at the reinforced slots)
Whaaaat is that? :||| I'm really looking forward to build my next machine with EVGA flagship MB, but with the delays and lack of communication, Asus Rampage VI Extreme is looking more appealing... And i don't even want an Asus MB. I would love if EVGA did 8 RAM slots, Dual Ethernet Ports (with 1x 10GbE port) and Watercooling Friendly Headers, if only... A man can dream, right?
Look at the FTW. The dark is meant for overclocking and benchmarking, and drops the things that do not help with overclocking and benchmarking. It has been said enough times that there is only 4 ram slots, because 8 just adds more stress to the memory controller and doesn't assist in benching.
Most of what you mention is already out there, just not on the board you are looking at currently.
Consider reading here: like you said, "if only" is right there in front of you.
Yes i saw the FTW. It looks like a nerfed DARK version so it won't affect it's sales. I see no watercooling support native on the MOBO, no interest on putting a 10GbE port, no integrated input ports plate... The only thing that FTW has that DARK lacks (not that DARK also has the above features) is 8 memory slots. I really really want to go all EVGA, i really don't want an Asus board, but i'm either with go asus with 8 memory slots, being able to go up to 128GB Ram + watercooling support + 10GbE Ethernet Port OR EVGA DARK, lacking those features i really need, but with the peace of mind that if something comes up i know i'll have my back covered by EVGA's awesome customer support and RMA. So yeah, i'm kind of dreaming that until DARK is on it's final release, they do implement some changes!

WOW, this is power section ready to OC Intel i9-7890XE. No matter is it necessary or not I like to see so good power section. No doubt EVGA lab build power section stronger than people need, special when they heard about possible problems. I like these lines from CPU socket to DIMM slots. On this board is sin using anything except 1080Ti K|NGP|N ... they are same family, similar PCB. People ask about support of i9-7890XE...ccc... What you think how K|NGP|N will test cards, off course with i9-7890XE? 4 DIMM slots are perfet because 64GB is enough for these type of platform. But for now manufacturers only make RDIMM 4x32GB, maybe soon Gskill and CORSAIR launch some kit 4x32GB. Than you could use 128GB and that would be far better than 8x16GB. I read on ASUS Forums few people have problems with 8 kits on Zenith AMD X399 platform. 4 works fine, but motherboard constantly restarts. My computer never used more than 6-7GB. Usually bellow 5GB. People who use platform for gaming, are fine with 4x8GB 3200MHz next few years.

I too really wish they'd make a monoblock for the Dark. But I asked the EK rep on OCN and he said they will not be making one. He said EVGA boards aren't popular enough. It really sucks.

Well monoblocks suck. It might be personal preference but me personally I don't particularly liek the looks of them some ppl do. But if you get a new board at some point you can throw it all away whereas a nice waterblock you can use for multiple hardware generations. Cooling the VRMs on the other hand gets a bit tricky. But I found a nice little manufacturer that makes versatile VRM/mosfet blocks with a nice universal mount. Got mine for the Micro... if evga didnt squeeze in some last minute changes for it's vrms it should fit perfectly. The Dark would certainly need one of their longer version blocks. https://shop.anfi-tec.de/ucd-upc.html I'll be posting pictures as soon as I can get my hands on a Micro board.

Nateman could build Monoblock for VRM and CPU if enough people agree. I suppose 30+ people. Now people need waterblock more than ever. Special guys who want to OC i9 processors. i9-7980XE is overclocked to 4.8GHz for 18 cores... I could imagine only speed of him, but people will struggle to push him on 4.0-4.2GHz. That's only small Xeon with different name optimized to sell him for desktop PC. Nothing else. I only could say that now EKWB X299 Dark is even more attractive. Really bad because she late for 18th anniversary I would search medals like crazy for her. I remembered I enjoyed in Z77 platform even without ROG functions. I liked FTW motherboard more than any other because she was mine, and that was only important and special because CPU reach good clock. Most important in that moment was that people was angry because IB OC less than SB, but I didn't share their opinion because my platform reach easy clocks of i7-2600K and i7-2700K.

but if you're a hard core EVGA motherboard user even if it's 2018 release date it does not matter.
