Hey All,

I'm completing my first build.  I have a ASUS X99 Deluxe motherboard, running a Intel i7-5820k CPU with a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 graphics card.  The motherboard has a 8 pin CPU connection.  The power supply provided CPU cable has a 8 pin connection on one end and dual 4+4 connections on the other.  The power supply is designed to use the 8 pin connection and doesn't support the 4+4.  If I plug in both 4 pin connections to the motherboard will this damage the motherboard?

When it comes to power I want to be certain.  Replies appreciated.

No damage, that's the way it goes..The 8 pin end goes to CPU1 (or CPU2) of your PSU and the 4+4 pin end goes to the 8 pin mobo EATX12V connector..A 4+4 pin connector is an 8 pin connector split in two..The reason for that is for compatibility across motherboard designs..Some motherboards only require a 4 pin CPU connector, in which case you'd only use the 4 pin half..Some motherboards require an 8 pin and a 4 pin CPU connectors, in which case you'd use a 4+4 pin of one connector and only the 4 pin half of the other..Some motherboards require two 8 pin CPU connectors, in which case you'd use two 4+4 pin connectors..The cables are universal like that.

Welcome to the forums..Good luck and have fun with your first build..And don't forget to update to the latest BIOS if needed because there have been stability and compatibility enhancements in the different releases.

Hey Bob,  thanks for the reply and friendly welcome to the forum.  My machine is up and running.  I'm working out some stability issues and then will proceed with giving it a proper gaming and software test.  Cheers!

The split 4+4 end connects to the CPU power on your motherboard. The shape of the individual plugs on the socket may not look like they'll fit, but they should, as it's all industry standard connections.
