So, I finally installed the Kraken G12 / X42 on my EVGA 2080 FTW3
Here is the process / pictures if anyone is interest: https://imgur.com/gallery/KlxVdt4

Key points:
  • I was able to keep the back and front (inner) plates.
  • Due to the front plate there's a small gap between the bracket and the card, but tests proved there's enough contact, so not a problem.
  • Due to lower temps OC is now stable at 2190/2175Mhz on benchmarks.
  • Max bench temps dropped @ 15C, but on a way silent card now.
  • This also proved FTW3 stock cooler is pretty good.
Any questions let me know =)

Pretty nice card on those temps! Would be interesting to see it on a hydro block at 36-38c.

Any Links to your Benchmark Scores?

    Is this LM?

    Thanks!
On that range the core clock would stay at 2205 =)

No links yet, Superposition only allows to post scores if you have the pro version and I didn't ran 3D Mark yet (need to update it and got bored and just jumped into games haha)
That's not LM, it's the normal thermal paste that came installed, it's just an odd reflection as I had a flashlight pointing to the card to take better pictures hehe.

I'm using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on the GPU, considering my concerns with the gap LM was not a good idea.

So just an update, ran some Time Spy and this is the best one so far: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/7074885

Crazy how Time Spy is hard on hardware.
Even that the temps are stable at 54/55 during the entire run, TDP will max out a lot of times which translates on core clock fluctuation all over the place instead of being stable like other benchmarks.
I believe that on Water this card could have the TDP bumped a little to 350W (it's 338) but @EVGA_JacobF said it's already maxed out so wont happen.

Happy with the card regardless =)

Run it again at a little lower clock to see higher scores as it will not hit the power limit as much.

That's the secret. As hard as you can go without hitting the power limit as much.

My card could hit 2205mhz but at 2160 in firestrike it scored better as it only set off the power limit 2 times at the beginning of test 1.. the one that can max the power easy.

Hum, good to know, I'll try a few runs tonight with a lower OC curve and see what I can achieve.
    Thanks!

why not just simply use a copper shim to fill the gap between cooler and core?

I have the EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 FTW3 Ultra, you think I can do the same type of mod to get it to work with the Kraken g12 and an AIO?
