A note for anyone who missed it on the stream yesterday - I asked if EVGA will be releasing new PSUs with the 16 pin power connector for the 3090 Ti cards and Jacob confirmed they are coming. No ETA provided though.

My guess is that they will be 1000W+ models (maybe an 850W?) and likely P2 or T2 level.. again, that is just me speculating.

Yeah, I wouldn't see any point in lower wattages. I'm honestly not even sure 1000W is good enough for what's rumored, but it might be a bare-minimum if you get a fairly efficient CPU that you don't plan to run under heavy load at the same time as your monster-GPU.

I'd think 1200-1300W and 1600W. Only really need the two models likely. I'd love to see them just completely bail on the current "+" models. I've never heard anybody give a positive review of them due to their loud behaviors. Reviews indicate that they perform "ok" but the audible noise is enough to drive most people crazy. They should just drop those and replace them with a new series made with these connectors that uhh...doesn't have that issue.

Thanks for posting this info.  Pretty safe to assume that they were working on one, but good to hear it from the horses mouth.

Agree with others that it probably only makes sense for higher wattage units like 1200, 1600w.

More than likely a huge number of manufacturers will be releasing these new type of PSUs in the 2nd half of this year.

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X,  Corsair Mp600 Pro M.2, 128GB DDR4  Crosshair VIII Hero, RTX 3090ti FTW Ultra Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

I would hope so considering it looks like the Nvidia 4000 series will all require them from early info

I don't know if next gen GPUs from AMD will adopt the new standard.

I thought about this thread today when I saw that all the 1600W power supplies are being heavily discounted for Elite members. Clearing out old stock some new models drop?

Right? Huge price drop on the 1600 T2.. more than $300 off, and ~50% on all of the 1600W units! I saw that and was like.. oh.. nope, chill, new PSUs are coming.

I picked up a 1600-T2 ... I figure someone will make an expensive adapter from the "old" PSUs to the new connectors.  If nothing else I have a nice doorstop.  Looking forward to the new U235-T2 and Pu239-P2 units, with a built-in nuclear reactors to power the next gen.

Judging by the spec, it doesn't look like adapter cables themselves are going to be much of a problem.
(I can't find the regular ATX12V 3.0 spec on Intel's website that isn't behind some paywall, but I think this part of the spec is copied from the PCIe 5.0 spec and should be identical anyway; also you'll have to bear with the improper link given forum restrictions)
    intel.com/content/www/us/en/design/products-and-solutions/processors-and-chipsets/alder-lake-s/atx12vo-12v-only-desktop-power-supply-design-guide/2.0/pcie-add-in-card-auxiliary-power-connectors-sideband-signals/

The data pins on the 12VHPWR connector are SENSE0, SENSE1, CARD_PWR_STABLE, and CARD_CBL_PRES#.
The SENSE pins aren't a big deal, a passive adapter that shorts both of these to ground would make it look, to the GPU, like a "proper" 600W 12VHPWR cable. The other two pins are to allow the GPU to communicate with the PSU (and not the other way around), and are an optional part of the spec that the PSU is allowed to ignore if it wants to.
The part of the spec that might cause issues are the new power excursion limits, which would allow e.g. a 600W 12VHPWR connector to go up to 1200W very briefly while still remaining in spec. Especially on lower-wattage units, that could definitely trip overcurrent protection if using a passive "cheater" cable. I wouldn't expect this to really be a problem with a ridiculously overspec'd 1600 T2 like I've just ordered myself.

I think that the new NVIDIA 4000 GPU series will demand significant increased PSU wattages and also in all of the newly featured EVGA PSU ranges. As such and for most all enthusiast systems 1600 watt is not unreasonable anymore. Perhaps 1600 watt becoming a new mainstay wattage for people who originally always purchased 1200 watt to be sure? This said we are probably are going to see very soon a bevy of new PSU’s hitting the market and more specifically with their dedicated support for PCIe Gen 5.0 graphic cards.

Would also like to see that some of the newer PSU products will include a digital LCD monitor to display the health status of the power supply, real-time on the fly power draws and then further offer the display of various texts and pictures. Perhaps even the adjustment of lighting effects through supplied RGB software. There was also talk about a feature of a fan dust removal function, whereby the fan rotates in reverse at high speed to shake off the dust and inside the power supply and the dust thus is carried out with the airflow. This function will be executed automatically when you turn on the PC, or it can be executed manually.

I am also curious if the given current form factors of the EVGA PSU lines will be maintained? Or will most of the newer units be shrunk in size to better fit or increase the marketing and sales towards the upcoming mainstream PC enclosures? I personally always liked the T2 and P2 offerings as I was under the distinct impression that a 220mm length PSU had superior hardware, much more heft and weight for the money, besides being able to better shed temperatures.

It is unlikely that we will see 2kw power supplies in the US market, largely due to constraints in household wiring. Your typical household 120V circuit breaker in the US is 15 or 20 amps, and they don't handle running close to those ratings for extended periods of time well. A reasonable assumption is that you should aim to run at under 80% of the rating for extended periods of time to avoid overloading the breaker. With that assumption, you should realistically only pull 1440W on a 15A breaker or 1920W on a 20A breaker.

Also, as far as I know, the 2kw PSUs EVGA sells are made to run at 200-240V only.

Yes I thought about that after I posted it,  I would need my shop's wiring haha
