Hi !

I have a question about powering my GTX 770 card which has:

1. 6 pin connector
2. 8 pin connector.

I checked my 650 watt PSU, its some unknown brand and lists 19 amp on both 12 volt rails.

My question is :

Will i be able to run this thing on this PSU - EVGA recommends 42A in total on 12 v rails .

I also figured out that my PSU has only 1 PCI-e 6 pin connector whereas got numerous molex pin connectors.

How can i connect the 8 pin connector when there's only one 6 pin connector even i use the adapter.

The packaging has 2 adapters for 6 and 8 pin connector.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me with nearly same hardware setup .

Thanks!

I have always been scared of no name PSUs. I have seen far too many of these provide poor output, unsteady output, or just turn into smoke under high load. I really have to recommend a good PSU and my first choice for you is Corsair. EVGA makes good PSUs as well.

Well from the looks of it your going to have to get a new psu...especially with the recommendation for amps and you only having one 6 pin pcie connector. And what the previous poster said also...

I use pc power and cooling psu's, I just put in a new 850 watt with my gtx 760 sc and everything is working great.

The screw in modular cables are nice also but have to warn you, the cables are set up to mount the psu at the bottom of the case. If you mount it at the top and route the power sata cables down the plugs are upside down.

The 770 requires a minimum of 42 amps on the +12v rail.
That Thermaltake PSU has two +12v rails, but each rail falls short of 42 amps.
So, you would have to use both +12v rails to power your 770.
You would then have to reference the wiring diagram to determine which PCI-e cable is on which +12v rail.

With that being said, I would recommend a PSU with a single +12v rail like this:

    Re: EVGA Gtx 770 - Question on 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-e connectors 2014/03/18 13:46:58 (permalink)
The recommended 600W 42A 12V is the minimum recommended total system power requirement based on an average/mid-range PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2GHz processor, not just for the GTX 770 itself.

The GTX 770 card power draw is rated at 250W which is 21A @ 12V, of which 75W (6.25A @ 12V) can be supplied by the PCIe slot itself..An additional 75W (6.25A @ 12V) can be supplied by the 6-pin PCIe supplemental power connector and 150W (12.5A @ 12V) from the 8-pin PCIe supplemental power connector as long as the PSU is up to the task..The card could draw up to a combined 14.75A from the PCIe supplemental power connectors, and 6.25A from the PCIe slot which equals the 21A rating of the card.

Your generic PSU might get by using that adapter, but probably not, or probably not for long, I certainly wouldn't go for it..That Thermaltake unit should work fine with 30A on +12V1 and 22A on +12V2..There are better units..Corsair makes pretty good units, as well as EVGA like rjohnson11 said..I like single +12V rail units, but that's just personal preference, there's nothing wrong with multi-rail units.

Use this PSU calculator to get a fair idea of your total system wattage requirement.

Long story short = Get a good PSU.

A 600 watt PSU with a 12 volt line of 42 amps is recommended. I searched on Newegg and if you MUST stay at 100 bucks then this would be fine:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139060

However if you are willing to go a little over your budget I recommend this Corsair model:

    http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16817139061

    Might be cheaper here: http://www.ncixus.com/pro...91783&promoid=1230

This will give you a bit more wattage leeway.

I would order SeaSonic G-750 SSR-750RM in a weeks time. The eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite recommends me to get 501 watt minimum.

Until then can you help me with this Thermaltake Litepower 700W W0356 PSU setup:

There's one 6 pin and one 8 pin connector on the PSU for a straight forward connection . Should i worry about the two 12V rails and/or is there anything else to configure?

I am just going to put this bluntly, if you try to run that card on a no-name PSU rated at 19 AMP's on the 12 volt rail you are asking for your entire computer to fry. 19 ams can only provide slightly more then 200 watts of power and that card will some times draw way more then that. And when you over tax a ****ty PSU they have an amazing tendency to fry everything that is connected to them. JUST DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thermaltake PSU with 48 amps on the 12 V rails installed just fine with a included two 6+2 pin connectors.

I am testing this card at the moment by running various benchmarks and configuring it for After effects and 3dsmax.
