It would be great if Jacob could transparently provide everyone here with the detailed changes EVGA introduced on the new RMA 3090 ftw3 ultra design to fix both the PCI wattage and wrong power balancing and what are the real improvement results. That's the only way to go to properly handle the current situation with the customers.
Thank you in advance for your professionalism Jacob.

Got my new card in today.. Only pulling 460W, My PX1 won't let me do led sync and only 2 fans are detected, I used 3dMARK to pull the wattage and this was on a +140/+1000 OC, 3Dmark also gave me mystery machine achievement for a unknown GPU loool.

Is this a program replacement card or just a normal RMA?

Did you compare your 3DMark results to your last card?  Mind sharing?

My new score is about 3K lower.... It's part of the replacement program.

Old highest score: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/18607865

New highest score (no hybrid cooler on yet as I just put the card in) https://www.3dmark.com/spy/19254448

I'm guessing it has something to do with a driver issue, I DDU'd in case and same result. average clock frequencies are higher though.

Yo guys,
reading your post am I questioning myself if I have to be concerned about max. 81 Watts out of the PCIe-Slot and having pulled 460 Watts out of the whole card within a testing time of two weeks.
What do you think about it?

I don't know how the new cards are fixed there are still balance issues on slot 3 and looks like to me all they done was limit the PCI slot power to 65 walts.

Anyone that has received their replacement card in the special RMA, can you check and see if they are using an upgraded VRM controller chip (only if you are pulling it apart for a waterblock anyhow)? The original was/is a UP9511. Hoping the fix was to replace that with a UP9512.

Just got my 3090 from the special RMA program a few hours ago.   If nobody else responds, ill let you know.  But give me a bit, I want to make sure it works before tearing it down and putting the Optimus block back on.

Thank you I really appreciate it. If it turns out to be the case that would be the best thing that could have happened to these cards. I sent mine out yesterday. Can't wait to get the replacement back and tested and then get the optimus block back on! Is the replacement a new card or a refurb?

Here is a pic of the same location.  Just eyeballing from my memory of my older card (it was a day one 3090 back from sept 24th), it looks waaaay different all over. I assume different parts due inventory issue across the industry.  Different thermal pads too...  I hit power target though with fans at 496W.  Putting block on today and will see if i can break my older score of 15.2k.
EDIT: NCP81610 is whats there now.

got my replacement today (I'm from Germany so no special RMA)

It would be interesting what serial number you have for everyone with a card from the new RMA program and the serial number from people with working cards. However I don't know if the first or last parts of the serial number are important. My new card however is from China and has a way larger/different serial number then both of the old cards (which where 4 digits apart from the serial number).

I post updates when I've checked my card, will be interesting if the cards from the new RMA are a special batch and my card (through normal RMA) is an old batch or also a new "fixed" one.

Wow, that confirms my suspicion. They changed out the voltage controller (buck controller) to what looks to be a unit that has smart power stages. That is great news.

Agreed, i was a bit happy to see it go straight up near 500W.   And yes, it came in a new box as well.  I did an RMA on a 2080ti back when it launched with issues and they kept my original packaging and sent a generic box.   But this 3090FTW from the special RMA system was new in box, even tap was untouched but it had the 500W bios preinstalled.

So @willm1224 and @prabh456 both got their replacement cards from the new RMA program and both cards are limited on the #3pin and only get to about 460 watts but the PCI power seems to be fixed on them. What are we thinking about this? So there is still a problem I guess but why? Very strange.

I've also just have received the replacement card and getting very similar results. New in the retail box - BIOS 94.02.42.80.15 in OC position. - #3pin quite lower than the other 2 - PCI never higher than 65-67w - Total draw always around 470w.  But I must add I am not testing in the best of conditions. I am on air and ambient at the moment with high temps (60-70). I'd like to know if @willm1224 and @prabh456 were also running their tests on air and ambient? And I also am very curious, although I won't have a chance to test it myself before a few weeks, what would the results be under better conditions, say at least an average temp below 40 at all times. Anyway, it is a slightly better card than the one I had before - more stable as well. Nothing to scream about from the roofs but better. Given the specs of this card (3090 FTW3 Ultra)I tend to think that this is what it is and that the last stretch to reach the OC full draw will be from hard work and ideal conditions. Then again, I may be wrong... You could win at the lottery. Now if only someone could release an unlock BIOS for the FTW3 - lol

Thanks raiden2a, and very good call on the controller phroze, raiden2a, we should have asked you for full board pics to compare with what other people get given shouldn't we! :)

I understand that the NCP81610 is an 8 phase digital or analogue VRM controller that is used on the likes of Palit and PNY cards.
Note that the fast, digital only, 10 phase controller MP2888 is used on the Founders Edition from Nvidia on the Asus Strix and by EVGA in the Kingpin https://www.overclock.net/threads/official-nvidia-rtx-3090-owners-club.1753930/

So the NCP81610 should be fit for purpose, nothing to get too excited about to be fair.

Interested to see the rest of the board...

This is a concern, did you get this resolved? Are you able to post photos of the board?

Just chiming in on the new board through this new swap program.  Same results as the others on air so far.  Always power limited. Never over 475w board power, #3 never over 110w while the other two never pass 150w.  PCIe never over 65w.  It clocks better now between 2000 and 2040ish mhz when benchmarking.  I just got it this afternoon so I'm still testing and trying to dial it in.  It's also much warmer here this week so temps are a bit higher on the card.  Seems like a bit of a wash if you are happy on the XC3 bios.

When benchmarking what does it give for a reason for PerfCap in GPUZ?

edit: nevermind, you mentioned it is power limited

Here is a pic of the same location.  Just eyeballing from my memory of my older card (it was a day one 3090 back from sept 24th), it looks waaaay different all over. I assume different parts due inventory issue across the industry.  Different thermal pads too...  I hit power target though with fans at 496W.  Putting block on today and will see if i can break my older score of 15.2k.
EDIT: NCP81610 is whats there now.

Wow, that confirms my suspicion. They changed out the voltage controller (buck controller) to what looks to be a unit that has smart power stages. That is great news.

I was thinking about that after the fact. Pictures would be nice. Even though it isn't same as the KP controller it is likely leaps and bounds better than that fully analog controller they were using.

I am new to this forum. Just got to order a 3090 FTW3 Ultra. I have had 3090 FE since the beginning. Thinking I will sell the FE and keep the FTW3 Ultra. However, I see people talking about RMA etc. Can anyone catch me up on the issue rather than hunting for it over many many pages? Will the one being shipped to me this week be updated? I appreciate any help!

You'll need to check your BIOS version when you get it to verify if it is the new cards or the older ones. This is the new BIOS: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/231245/231245
