so, if i step up the the icx version is it a new card, or just a new cooler for old card?

With a brand new pcb, it is currently impossible to receive an old card. The old cards ca not be fit with the new sensors

all ok. well guess i will step-up up then, thanks

So silly question, I've had my 1080 FTW cards (SLI) replaced 4 times, and still having problems, would I not be able to get these cause of all my problems? I mean I'm at the point of getting a lawyer involved...I've always loved EVGA and still do but I'm still having issues, not to mention I sell your products and thinking about dropping EVGA from our list of products we sell (System Builder) Thoughts?

Correct but why should I have to pay $200 more for something that I personally have been having problems with still?!? Don't feel that's fair, I mean I don't mind paying something, but $200 for both my cards that I've had constant problems with isn't fair IMO...

One more time slowly.

Remove entire solution from both cards, test both on the card with the new fancy sensors.

The video card becomes the control in the experiment as you test one card with both coolers.

First and foremost, dont be rude.

Second, and more importantly, this is a new pcb and has changed to accomodate the new sensors and the new fuse. If they dont line up perfect from old card to new, it would never work. Basically the old base plate may not have spots for the fuse and sensors, so it would possibly crush them.

Well I seriously doubted that evga would be daft enough to change the PCB to the point none of the FTW cooling solutions would work anymore.

That would tick off quite a few vendors.

Have you saved up any EVGA Bucks?  You have been a member since 2005, and utilizing the EVGA Buck program over the years could definitely help you out with offsetting any costs.  At least with the cost set, you don't have to worry about shipping as well. Not using that as any sort of justification or anything, just that you don't have to spend an extra $20 per card to ship them back yourself.

Why would it tick off vendors?  The 1000 series has been out for months, and most of them would be willing to start working on new project to bring forth new revenue. EKWB could redesign a new block (not saying they would) and those that are upgrading could get it, which benefits EK in the long run.. So why would they be mad about that?

Hello Kosmic79,

Just wanted to clarify that the there is no Step Up available to the iCX cards.  There is only the iCX Upgrade program (http://www.evga.com/icxupgrade/) which is completely separate from the Step Up program.    If you went through the iCX upgrade program, the card would be a brand new retail card sealed inbox.  Hope this helps clear up the question.

Nice of them to do.  But to basically play off of the heat issues, even saying there is no need for thermal pads or bios update, then to say "here is the FTW 2" for only $99 bucks more, and they had one of their paid channels (Jays2Cents) do a promo video...really EVGA really....

THAAAANK you.

Well?......EVGA?

And about the ICX business=It would be a first and a great sell if you guys could make an upgrade kit for 10 series owners.  I'd buy it.

Look, I'm with you 100% and I've been pretty vocal about it, but let's be realistic - I don't think anyone really expected EVGA to come out and say that they screwed the pooch - certainly I didn't, what annoyed me was their constant disingenuous statements that you're referring to above.  What I wanted was a solution and they've offered it at what looks like their cost - $99.  That's fair enough to me; others of course are free to feel different.

Tbh honest. There is no reason to upgrade to this version if you already have the thermal pads that they gave out. Temps are a tiny bit better but Imo the only nice thing here is they finally have sensors to monitor VRM and memory temp. I watercool my rigs (full ek blocks) and it's nice to see temps of everything and not just the GPU die. Paying 100 bucks to upgrade for this is up to the user. For me it's not.

But what's worth the $99 upgrade cost is just the fact that you get 3 months of step up. I bought my 1080 ftw at the start of November thinking that the 1080 ti would be out during CES and I was going to step up. The TI didn't come. Now it's said to be announced during PAX East. Which is early March. I give it the estimate of a month max after announcement for release. If that is the case. Being able to step up would be nice being how my current card step up just ended :( so I look at this as a chance to get 90 more days of step up.

The gamble is if the TI will be released within 3 months from now. Parts of me thinks no if EVGA is going to offer 90 stay step up for anyone that does this. I would imagine that everyone that does this upgrade would step up to the TI if given the chance. Which I would think would hurt EVGA from sending out everyone these new 1080s to just get them sent back for the TI.

What your guys thoughts. ? I'm really close to pulling the trigger to do this "upgrade" for another chance of getting step up opportunity to the TI .

anyone know if we are still eligible for the ICX upgrade if we installed the EVGA-provided thermal pad mod? terms and conditions say "The qualifying ACX 3.0 card must be in original factory condition as outlined in the EVGA Global Warranty"

Which I would think would hurt EVGA from sending out everyone these new 1080s to just get them sent back for the TI.

What your guys thoughts. ? I'm really close to pulling the trigger to do this "upgrade" for another chance of getting step up opportunity to the TI .

Hey we are in the same boat. I bought mine in late Nov and Dec and now thinking about this upgrade too. I just chatted with EVGA and not only you can step up, you get the warranty to reset to the new ship date (probably April). I think I will do the upgrade for a chance to the Ti Step up.

No shortage of iCX threads now, huh?

Nope.. lol.

Ill just drop this here, since i just posted it in one of rhe other (other, other) threads.

EVGA did also add more mounting points for the cooler to attach to the pcb, which will reduce sag. No one seems to remember that part.
