What they could and should have done, is move people on those cards over the the FTW Ultra since they are similar. At least give people the option, but all they say is "We're still making it! Just wait another year until your number is called". Right. They had no problem moving us to the LHR cards, which is fine by me. 


The LHR switch was because Nvidia stopped making non-LHR.  Not really the same.  Switching people to a more expensive card could be called "bait-and-switch," which is illegal.  
And, you had a year to enter every queue that you wanted to.  I think most people did exactly that.  
I also entered ONLY for the 3885 last September but it quickly became apparent that all of the 3080 SKUs were going to be unicorns.

#1 I know exactly why they switched to LHR. As I stated, I have no problem with that. What I said saying is they DID NOT COMMUNICATE that SKUs were going to be removed or left dormant. I didn't mean bait and switch, I was suggesting that they give people the option. But EVGA hasn't done so or told which SKUs were going away. I'm not saying force people to pay for something and deliver something different. Tell them what is going on and they can walk away if they don't want to have a card that is different from what they are in a queue for.
 
But to use your example, EVGA switched my card to an LHR. Is that in fact not a bait and switch? You are now trying to sell me a gimped card that is missing features from the card I originally selected?
 
Per their own update "EVGA strongly suggests to keep the FTW3 ULTRA or XC3 ULTRA models due to consistent supply compared to..."
 
I had 8 cards reserved (nice job making assumptions) and was told to narrow it to the two best cards recently. One of those being the XC3 Ultra 3885. It has since stopped moving and the FTW3 Ultra is continuing to be filled as of yesterday. How, as a consumer, am I supposed to know what they are going to stop producing or just decide not to produce. Both cards are very similar and they both use the same chip.
 
Ever heard the term "The Customer Experience"? Neither has EVGA apparently. They could have better communicated what was going on and offer the consumer OPTIONS on SKUs going away or at least informed them!!! Instead of just telling us to pick the two oldest/wanted and then also recommending (XC3 Ultra) a card they aren't even moving anymore. It hasn't been a year since they said the XC3 Ultra was a "consistent supply", it's been weeks...

It hasn't been a year since they said the XC3 Ultra was a "consistent supply", it's been weeks...


The LHR switch had an option out, with strongly worded advice.  
I recall the 3885 moving within the last couple of weeks.  Supply is still short for all cards, and EVGA is limited by what they receive from Nvidia.  And, to boot, the 3080s have always been in short supply.  We've seen more movement these last two weeks than all summer.   Over the course of the queue we've seen that SKUs tend to come in waves.  No reason to expect that to change.
EVGA setup a queue.  It's not perfect, but it's one of an amazingly limited number of options to get a GPU at MSRP.   It is not and has never been remotely suggested that entering the queue is a guarantee that you will receive a card.  
I understand your frustration.  Try finding a new car at MSRP.

Thank you! I belong in the group of rare Elite friends that is helping all other friends. The 3080ti is for me alone and until my ultrawide monitor conks, I don't see a need to upgrade anytime in the near future. The 3070ti ftw3 is for my brother and his first build (which I will build ) and this 3070ti XC3 is for my brothers friends second build. I also got a dual 3060 from microcenter for my brothers girlfriends first build (which I will also build). Now that I look at it maybe I just get a kick out of the challenge of getting a card during this time period...

My answer was: "Lord British was my elementary school babysitter." How would you respond?

I don't recommend buying off EBay or similar - you may find yourself with a card with no warranty and police knocking at your door to retrieve it. [link]
