Since I can't use Westmere CPUs (I don't wanna mod my board), I was looking at some alternatives from the legacy support website https://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/legacy/ , but this CPU isn't listed there, and tech support said they can't always test all combinations for compatibility, so I might be better off asking at the forums. So does anyone know if these are compatible?

not much difference between the two, both need the mod to work http://ark.intel.com/compare/52586,47917 you may not need it with a rev2 board.

I'm so confused atm, what does the Rev 2 board has that other Revs don't? I was thinking on getting the w3690 if it didn't need the mod, they are cheap on ebay.

not sure, i picked up my w3680 a few months back for $80 shipped. well worth the work even if you have to mod your board (which is real easy to do)
