"DD-WRT is a third-party firmware solution designed to replace the firmware that ships pre-installed on many commercial routers. This is done for a variety of reasons; including but not limited to the addition of features which are not typically included in a manufacturer's router firmware." More information about DD-WRT can be found here

I made this guide to supplement DD-WRT’s Client Bridged instructions. A wireless bridge can connect multiple wired devices to an existing wireless network.

This assumes you have already flashed the router with DD-WRT Firmware, have a cable connected from your computer to the LAN port on your DD-WRT router, and are currently using the default settings.

Open your web browser and connect to http://192.168.1.1. You should be prompted to change the default Username and Password.

Go to Wireless > Wireless Security and select the correct Security Mode.
Enter the Shared Key or other security settings that match your primary router.
Select Apply Settings.

Go to Wireless > Basic Settings and change the Wireless Mode to Client Bridge.
Select the Wireless Network Mode and enter the Wireless Network Name (SSID) that matches your primary router. If you’re using N only or Mixed with N, set your wireless channel width to match your primary. Ensure the SSID spelling and capitalization match.
Select Apply Settings and ensure the configurations saved.

Go to Setup > Basic Setup and enter a Local IP Address of 192.168.1.2 (Assuming your primary router is on the 192.168.1.x subnet and the 192.168.1.2 IP address is not already in use on the network).
Leave Subnet Mask at 255.255.255.0 and set the Gateway IP Address to match your primary router (likely 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
Leave Local DNS blank, and check Assign Wan Port to Switch, if you wish to.
Set the correct Time Zone and DST, if needed, and select Apply Settings.

Give it a moment to apply the new settings. Open a New Tab or New Browser Window, navigate to 192.168.1.2, and login to your router.

I like to test the wireless bridge at this point. Open a New Tab and go to www.google.com. I must have done something wrong. :)

I went back to my DD-WRT System Information page and noticed I misspelled the SSID.

I went back to Wireless > Basic Settings, fixed the Wireless Network Name (SSID), selected Apply Settings, and refreshed www.google.com.

Go to Security > Firewall and disable the SPI Firewall.
Uncheck everything except Filter Multicast and select Apply Settings.

Go to Setup > Advanced Routing and change the Operating Mode from Gateway to Router. Select Apply Settings.

Go to Status > Wireless to view the wireless bridge’s status.

You can select Site Survey to view and join available networks.

This is an old post but I used this guide to try to do it and got stuck so I'm going to post here.
I fill out everything I can for the info to the best of my knowledge (I could probably use some help with figuring out if the info I enter is being taken from the correct stuff.) but when I finish doing it all I still have no internet access. Would anyone mind helping me figure this stuff out please?

No problem. Welcome to the forums! Please post your DD-WRT router's make and model and screenshots of what you have done so far.

EDIT: and version of DD-WRT. I haven't used it in a while and will need to do a little research.

Well as of right now the router has been hard reset but I took a cisco E2500 Router and used the DD-WRT build 21061 and am trying to connect it to a zyxel pk5001z wireless modem if that helps any.

EDIT: If it helps any all of the stuff in the pictures above were there it was just that I didn't know what the info needed was. Like my modems channel width or the ip's to enter in.

You will need to get that information from your primary router or use the site survey feature. I haven't used DD-WRT in such a long time. I upgraded my routers a while ago and started using Tomato. It's a lot more user friendly and very easy to setup.  I'm almost tempted to suggest this instead but DD WRT should work for you too.

I would have used tomato but my brother said it didn't support my router.

The E2500.bin in the middle of that page should work.

I'm not giving up on DD-WRT just yet. It should work and only require a few extra clicks. Looks like Zyxel's default IP address is 192.168.1.1 so I would recommend using 192.168.1.2 on your E2500. Open a command prompt on your PC and type "ipconfig /all" to see your network's Default Gateway and Subnet Mask (these should be your zyxel modem).

I've gotten to that part but when I try to connect to the internet portion of the guide I don't have any internet and then my router doesn't let me connect to anything and I need to reset it then do it all again.

Try temporarily disabling the wireless security on your Zyxel wireless modem and DD-WRT. See if it works with no security. This is just temporary. Sometimes the security doesn't work well with 3rd party firmware like DD WRT and Tomato.

EDIT: Can you still connect to the E2500 router with a web browser or does it completely stop responding?

I would have replied to your PM but since my account was made today I can't. Does the router need internet access at the time of setting it all up to do this?

Just to let others know that might be in a similar situation and come across this. I tried to help bacon269 last night remotely with DD WRT and we didn't have much luck. He ended up using this E2500 version of Tomato  By Shibby. He was able to get it setup and working very quickly by himself. At this time I would strongly suggest trying Tomato first if your device is supported. I've been using it on one of my ASUS RT-N66U routers for more than a year and love it. It's easy to setup and very intuitive. And the reason I tried it initially is because DD-WRT didn't work correctly on my ASUS RT-N66U.

EDIT: I'm not trying to completely discourage others from trying or rule out using DD-WRT either. You may find DD-WRT works great or better for your device and prefer it. I used it for many years on my Linksys 54G and GL routers and loved every minute of it. They probably have most of the bugs worked out for the ASUS RT-N66U. It was a fairly new device when I purchased mine.

Here's a nice database if you want to see what type of routers and firmware others are using.

I have a WRT54GS and I put DD-WRT on it for the same purpose, a wireless bridge for my ethernet only printer; it worked for me, but sometimes it doesn't work for every application.  DD-WRT is a bit complicated in the setup :/
