Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2022/12/18 10:25:25 (permalink)
All three of my cpu crunching computers never see any WCG work
On a reboot Hybrid reported this in the log
12/18/2022 10:02:07 AM | World Community Grid | Not using CPU: project preferences
12/18/2022 10:02:07 AM | World Community Grid | Not using NVIDIA GPU: project preferences
12/18/2022 10:02:07 AM | World Community Grid | Not using Intel GPU: project preferences
Hybridis folding and crunching continuously (Rosetta)
I just set Cobra up to crunch and it only has WCG (not seeing any work)
It is folding just fine.
Any idea why I can't get WCG to work?
***Update***
I went into the device profiles at the WCG website and found under Default settings that the cpu was not enabled to crunch???
I made changes to both profiles Default and home and now I am getting different messages but still no work.
These messages show projects and specific settings (intel gpu etc)

@SmookinJoe
If your CPU queue is with other CPU Tasks you my never get other CPU tasks from other projects.

You can also set WGC to 90% and Rosetta to 10%

I wouldn’t try to do two projects at once
Make sure your user name and team is the same for each project. Set it to 100% make sure you have it so you can get tasks in preference on the WCG site. Then in task mgr set it to 1 days worth of work and highlight WCG and then update and you should get tasks

Username, team, password and everything else is same same insame
The two computers running Rosetta continuously have WCG on them...I will leave those alone cause they are running. Might remove WCG
BUT...
I have a computer folding and have installed Boinc..for cpu with Intel GPU option..
It is only running WCG and I guess WCG doesn't need me for cpu work.
When IBM was running  WCG, I had continuous work on another computer (cpu).
Not sure where to set 1 days work in task manager with WCG highlighted. Is that on the website somewhere or in the Boinc installed manager?
I think I ran across that setting somewhere in my travels...lol

Update
***Found the days setting***
Advanced view/options/computing preferences/other ...but no WCG to highlight on computer running just WCG while folding

If you have one or two getting tasks then the 3rd one should too. Unless their server is acting up as it does too often
If the one not getting tasks is set to get tasks and set to use 99% of cpus and slow 1 days worth of tasks. You can reset the project or even remove it and then put it back on.

I tried removing it & replacing it..no change.
Denis @ home & WCG aren't getting work but Rosetta full speed ahead on 2 computers
Third is strictly WCG and is not getting any cpu work. Says it has amd/ati work but I don't have a gpu for that ...lol
It also says it has Nvidia gpu work but my preferences...are for foldin...lol

It looks like WCG is not sending out any tasks right now. I’m down to seven on all my boxes put together. I keep a days queue at least so I should have over a thousand tasks on hand
Wait and see what happens tomorrow Monday when they are back in the office

It’s too bad the project is having so many problems since the transfer from IBM
Seems they can’t keep it online for more than a couple weeks at a time. Sure hope they get it together it’s such a worthwhile project that’s had real world results.

Have you read the terms and conditions you agree too to run WCG?
They are filled with IBM references

I'm not getting anything as well. I avoided WCG during the change over because it was a mess. I figured the mess would be cleaned up by now. Silly me.

I do not bother with GPU Tasks over on WGC, we have to many other projects that run GPU as well as Folding on the GPU.

Bummer I am stuck FMA3 on the newer Intel CPU (i9-13900KF) being that Intel Dropped AVX-512.
Tasks take 2.5 times longer to complete over the AVX-512 tasks.
I cannot wait to see what is coming after the X299 Motherboard from Intel.
Other than this issue the Z690 KPE + RTX 3090 FTW3 with the EK Water Block installed is running well.

Remember I know nothing

On Cobra My Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz has been dialed back to a upper limit of 3600Mhz to save power. It is pulling 23 watts.
It is looking after FAH with a EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 12g and ticking right along with Boinc running WCG (8 various  tasks all at once)
Aminer has the same cpu running 1 EVGA 2060 XC Ultra, 2 EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080's on FAH (no Boinc) and is pulling 23-27 watts at 3600Mhz
Hybrid has the same cpu running 1 EVGA 2060 XC Ultra, 2 EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080's on FAH (with Boinc running 8 identical  tasks all at once for Rosetta) and is pulling 47-48 watts at 3600Mhz
Folder is my only Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz. It can be dialed back to 4200Mhz and It is looking after FAH with an EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 10g and Boinc running Rosetta and is pulling 61+ watts at 4200Mhz. (I should probably try and adjust it to try and see if it will run WCG...just to see the power difference)
I thought the i9's would give me a cooling issue so I never bought any.
Intel all the way

Question
How would I adjust the WCG and Rosetta scheduling to run more WCG, in Boinc Manager?

It is best to run one at a time in the long run.
Is what will happen if you run two at a time one will stop running and the other project will start up and then after a set time it will stop and return to the other project and start back up.
This would cause tasks to take 10 times if not longer to complete.
I will post an image of the % under Resource share you set.

My rigs pull between 500-600 Watts on the CPU Side and on the GPU Side.

What is Aminer?

Cobra, Aminer, Folder, Butch, Lester, Hybrid and Grunt are the names of my computers that are folding for SmookinJoe et al...
Hybrid, Cobra, and Folder are crunching too
500watts would represent your whole computer. The numbers I was quoting were taken from Asus AI suite and are what just the cpu is using.
I see the Projects list and the resource numbers but how do you adjust them. Mine each say 100 with 50% in brackets.
How do you adjust the percentage?
Usage Limits in computing options? % of computing time?
These seem to be global settings for all projects and not for any specific project.
The setting for switching between tasks is 120 minutes.
Should this number be higher?

It shows 50% because you are only running two Projects.
No, not really, I have two PSU one for the CPU/MB and one for the GPU each run between 500 and 600 watts for 1000 to 1200 watts total.
Each PSU is on it's own UPS Unit.
