Or just buy one of the amazon splitters for 3$ a piece. That might saving you from buy another power supply unless you have a 500B that only has a single 8 pin vga harness lol.

As my local Micro Center was out of EVGA power supplies I grabbed a Corsair 850 Watt modular unit. I did not look at what cables it had -- but hay -- its a 850 watt unit It must have what I need :-} well almost I did have to use the second set of SLI power cable to get the the 2 sets of 8 pin plugs and not mess with the extra 6+2 they had on each 8 pin plug set ** so a different option is to use all the cables and get another supply later if you add a second card --------------- there was no extra CPU-2 cable needed for motherboard OC on the Corsair PS so will replace later with the normal EVGA PS units I used on other builds. ---------------

jdw715 Will it run off of one power connector if undervolted?
Have you read the posts, especially #6? No, it will not run without the required power plugs plugged in. You will get an error message telling you to turn off your computer and to plug in the required power adapters. And you people wonder why I made the snarky comment above. It's like the victims of zombies are invading these here forums. They have no brains! /s

Refer to reply number 1. The answer was no before, and stays no now. Use a dual 8 pin connector, as I suggested the first time. It is a single cable with two 8 pin plugs on the gpu side.
Yes, I read the original post and it said nothing about undervolting; that's why I asked about it. Instead of of just saying yes you still need both power cables connected, you have to be rude. Congratulations!
You think that is rude? You can’t undervolt something that won’t boot. Why would you get upset that you are being treated like an adult?
It’s simple, you had your answer, and it doesn’t change. You are required to have both plugs connected, as stated in reply number 1. To undervolt, you have to boot into windows. Without both plugs installed, you can not. See the vicious cycle of repeating steps here? It is extremely frustrating to repeat the exact same thing over and over. Especially when people are clearly misguiding you and saying it can be power off of the pci lane, which is a lie.

This will allow you to use 1 8 pin to make to act as a dual. It’s $2 usd.
I never undervolted before. I don't have the card yet. It's back-ordered. My statement still stands.

I'm pretty sure the main reason why a card without both cables connected won't boot, is because they individually feed a set of the phase, otherwise one set of pins could certainly power the card - and set the machine on fire when it gets too hot.

What is the work-around you found? Honestly why bother doing a work-around? I would be excited to buy a new PSU for my computer.

The $3 splitter I posted earlier works perfect for exactly what you need. It isn’t a work around either. Companies sell the cables with the same splitter basically installed. Spend the $2 and pick on up.

You definitely want to use both. Even if you can boot the card with only one connector, your speeds, stability, and overclocking will suffer tremendously.
