My Rig
  • Aorus x570 Ultra
  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900x
  • 32 GB Corsair Vengeance 3300 RAM
  • EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra
  • Corsair 1000w power supply (gold)
  • Windows 10 Pro (current update)
  • Custom Water Loop with 480 rad (never gets above 70C)

Problem: Random crashes and stability issues, black screen and blue screens, 50% of the time it will disable the GPU on launch
- I am using the most current drivers from EVGA and from NVIDIA
- I am running 3 separate power cables directly from my power supply

Not sure what to try, very frustrating as the crashing is random and makes the PC unusable

Do you have a different GPU to test on?  I'd try finding one from a friend to see if the problem persists with a different GPU.

motherboard BIOS- see if it's the latest
turn off 'fast boot' & turn off 'CSM' in BIOS
turn ram memory settings back to stock
run PX1 to do the firmware update to the videocard
    - then DDU the nvidia drivers only & reinstall

I was using a EVGA 2070 super with no issues, it seems to be the new GPU

what's the stop code for the bsod? i would start by reseating ram and gpu. if you have any cpu or ram overclocks applied, remove them. test stability, if it's ok, add back one oc setting at a time, testing between.

my guess is ram, if you have no overclocks applied to ram, try removing one stick. if no issues, try swapping the sticks and test again. if you've eliminated all potential sources of hardware failure, i'd look in your event logs and see what you can find. GLHF

    Stop code: VIDEO TDR FAILURE
    what failed: nvlddmkm.sys

I will try reseating the GPU and RAM, I am not overclocking just yet because the system is not stable so I am better off with stock speeds.
Thank you so much for helping, I have been building PCs for 20+ years and this is the 1st time I have had an issue that I can run to ground.

I am not sure where I can find PX1 (never mind Precision X1 is PX1) and how to do a firmware update on the GPU, the motherboard bios is up to date I will turn off fast boot and CSM
    - I have DDU installed, but I have never used it so i will need to google the how to so that I don't screw it up :)

nothing at this point everything is stock settings, if I can get to a stable point then I was hoping to play with the OC settings. The main reason I upgraded is my new monitor (Samsung 49in 1440, 120hz monitor) is too much for the 2070 super. I have been able to run a few games with the 3080 at ultra settings and get good frame rates. Unfortunately I have had several crashes along the way and when I restart the GPU is deactivated in device manager. I re-install the drivers restart and all is well until it crashes again.

If you have Rebar enabled 1st thing I would try is disabling it....see if problem persists...

found this from a little google searching...up to you but maybe worth a shot?

before tampering on the Regedit with TDR, try this (from the official NVidia Forum): Apparently someone has solved the TDR issues of his RTX 3080 by disabling "Enable low level IO driver" and "Enable low-level hardware access interface" in Afterburner Settings.

Someone else offers: Instead of AB, try Nvidia Control Panel -> Help -> then click on "Debug Mode"

I tried it and so far it seems better, still unstable at startup, but I played COD and Halo no problems so far

Update: The blue screen seems to be very infrequent but I am having some app specific issues. Cyberpunk wont load and COD crashes from time to time. I can live with that to be honest. Thanks everyone for the help in running this issue to ground.
