Hey, folks. I'm looking to build a computer from scratch, and I've established I'd like to build one centralised around the EVGA Geforce GTX 770 w/ ACX cooling. I've noticed in the thread that the 770 series seems to have some compatibility issues with certain motherboard models. Thus: Can anyone here please recommend me a motherboard that is guaranteed to work, out of the box, with the GTX 770? (Preferably one that supports an i7 3770k processor, but I'm flexible on that.) I just want to make certain the motherboard I buy will run the EVGA GTX 770 w/ACX, with a minimal amount of tweaking. My thanks in advance.

i only seen problems with x58 and x79 mobos, you should be fine with 1155 which supports 3770k, or new haswell 1150 boards.

Any recommended brands or features I should be looking for, though? Your recommendations seem fairly generalised.

IMHO i highly suggest you do NOT purchase an actual Intel based manufactured motherboard. Buy any of the other manufactured brands with just the Intel chipsets but dont even consider any of the fully manufactured Intels. Intel IMO could care less after 6 months of releasing new boards of ever resolving compatibility issues with any Bios updates that work. Once they get your money they have no further monetary incentive to take care of their customers. Just venture over to the Intel Community " Desktop Boards " forum and read the complaints. Unfortunately i have one of their DZ68BC Extreme mobos and will probably keep it with my i7-2600k until i upgrade to the next generation Intel CPU after the Haswell, but the MB wont be an Intel manufactured brand. Personally i think Intel is about ready to quit making motherboards in the future. Regards,

I have built 3 or 4 socket 1155 machines with Asrock boards (Z77/Z68/H67) and they work very well and have very nice BIOS's with full GUI mouse support and everything. On my Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 I got an i5-2500k to 4.8GHz on water cooling. My GTX 760 works just fine on my Z77 Extreme 3. Bootup works just as well as my GTX 275 I upgraded from or my GTX 630 I bought for display port testing (card with dual display port 1.2) Anyway if you want cheap but upgradeable Mobo, the Z77 Extreme 3 (like the Z68 Extreme 4) has dual PCI-E 8x/8x for SLI, and an additional PCI-E 4x (full 16x slot) so you can add a third GPU, fast RAID card, 10 GB network card, etc add-on in the future. The new Asrock Haswell boards have that new Realtek Audio system that sounds interesting as well, but I haven't tried it yet. They use some new ACL1150 chip + high quality TI Amplifiers, then encase it inside a shield block, then have ground isolation on the PCB and everything, so the SNR is a lot higher than standard ALC892/ALC888, ect. On the Asrock and probably all other Z77 mobos, the PCI-E 3.0 works automatically and the funny UEFI GOP fast boot is not enabled by default, so I don't see how you could ever have compatibility issues unless to you tried to force something like UEFI fast boot when it isn't set up right or the hardware doesn't support it. I haven't tried the special Windows 7 GOP fast boot yet. I do know that Windows 7 UEFI install can be tricky. The CD install works, but if you flash drive install it won't boot into UEFI mode, so you must add files to the flash drive for that. Then it should boot into UEFI, then you can partition as GPT with EFI boot partition. So far every 1155 board I have tried does not have a way to force UEFI boot only, so it is tricky to figure out if you are really booting your OS installer in UEFI mode. I should mention that MS fixed the flash drive install in Windows 8, but you definitely shouldn't use Windows 8.... With the latest versions of Linux Mint or similar you can also UEFI install those after windows and they will properly add grub to the EFI partition, but its not automatic yet.
