Hi guys, I've just got the EVGA 3090 and it's producing a ton of heat compared to my 1080ti. This was to be expected but I wanted to check that I have my case airflow correctly setup. My previous 1080ti was a founders edition with a fan blower design so my case setup did fine, but with this 3090 my case has been turned into a radiator. The card is idling around 58 - 60c and +80c at load. My setup EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB FTW3 ULTRA GAMING Intel Core I7-7700K 4.20 GHz Socket 1151 8MB (overclocked to 4.6ghz) Asus rog maximus ix code lga 1151 atx intel motherboard Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler Corsair AXi 860W Fully Modular 80+ Platinum Power Supply 3x Corsair Sp120 Rgb Fan - With Controller Jonsbo RM4 Zone Window ATX Aluminium Case I'm aware my current setup is old and not suited for the 3090 but ill soon be upgrading to a 5950. However, in 4k gaming the 3090 has performed well, with the exception of FS2020! Thanks!

Only one Fan for exhaust... No top exhaust possible... Blowing hot air from the corsair Rad directly in the card... 60C idle? The card will die in under a year.

Thanks.. so new case with more exhaust fans I'm guessing will do it.

Either that or turn your fans around on the radiator.

yikes, with no top exhaust - I would either reverse the direction on the AIO cooler to blow out ,.. or plan on keeping the side door cover off all the time.

Yeah radiator heat is blowing on to the GPU will increase the temp, I had to buy a new case cause of how cramped it was for my case but it seems you can switch the fans to exhaust in front instead of exhausting onto the card. Did you flip the OC switch onto the card so you can get a more aggressive fan curve? You can also try under volting. My card Idles 50~55 in silent mode(Normal Switch) since the fan don't actually starts spinning till it hits 60c? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Facing the prospect of the same issues, I just decided to go with a new (bigger) case with better airflow options.

I ended up flipping the fans on the AIO cooler to exhaust, but because my case only has a 1 inch side grill the results are marginal. I've now got two intake fans at the bottom, the AIO set to exhaust and the rear fan set to exhaust. A bit of a weird setup I know but I really need the fan at the rear of my case to exhaust as it's the biggest grill plate I have.

And how is that working? I don’t think there’s anything weird with intake from the bottom.

I ended up reverting to my old fan config and just fine tuning my fan settings to make them more aggressive. I've also set the EVGA fans to spin up at 40 degrees. I'm now getting 32 degrees in idle on the GPU and 35 on the CPU.

I'm always amazed when I see people with cases like this. Who would ever buy a case that has solid front and top panels???? ****

Or you gotta wonder why manufacturers make them! :) When I first built my PC 3 years ago it was more than suitable for my existing hardware. The case has bottom and side vents, so it's not completely enclosed.

I personally would not mount a RAD on solid front with side ports regardless of fan direction. Air is greatly restricted compared to a mesh front. You need a new case, not only to address the general lack of air flow but for better mounting options of the RAD. Nothing wrong with pulling air in through the RAD. That is how I set mine up but it is expelled out the top immediately. I found pulling air in, as long as you can circulate it out well, gave me much better CPU and overall system temps.

In the interim, I personally would put a third fan intake on the bottom, and reverse the front fans to blow out. That way you'd have 3 blowing in, 3 blowing out, and that is the best you can do with that case.

Yeah, there was nothing wrong with your original setup aside from the settings being wrong. If you can move the bottom fans back a few inches that might be preferable.

I'm thinking of replacing it with the NZXT H710:
I know it also has a solid fronts but I'm really not a fan of mesh cases. I want something that performs well but looks good as this is going in my living room! :)

I upgraded NZXT H710 with Lian Li 011 XLTop 3 exhaust and bottom 3 intake fans makes a wind tunnel. You control positive or negative case pressure with fans rpm (intake a bit more rpm then exhaust)
