Ordered the backplate 100-BP-2981-B9 for my EVGA SC GTX 980 ACX 2.0. 04G-P4-2983-KR The backplate has 9 screwholes and only 5 align with 5 on my gtx 980. I have the correct ID number on the backplate. In the PDF techincal Spec sheet on EVGA acessories page there is another backplate that would fit to my Gtx 980. I need the Backplate in the techincal Spec sheet. Where is the backplate that fit my 04G-P4-2983-KR?

Doesn't the straight pipe design of ACX 2.0 negate the need for a backplate anyhow? I had them on my Titans and I found it didn't really do much for them aside from just being a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

You are correct it probably will not make much difference on the performance but it looks very nice with backplate :)

The one I got is the picture of the item P/N: 100-BP-2981-B9 but if you check both on EU and US site and download the Manual that Backplate has another layout of the holes and that backplate is not the same as the one on the product page for P/N: 100-BP-2981-B9. The one in the Manual has 8 screwholes but the one featured on the product page has 9 and only 5 of them align with the screws of 04G-P4-2983-KR.

EVGA is still trying to figure out what its doing with its own backplates. Because there are so many PCB revisions of the 980 and 970, (acx, evga-1982, nvidia refernce, ssc+, ftw+, etc) the original backplates they made no longer fit correctly. They're remanufacturing their backplates for the time being and will reannounce them in some way once they're finished. Sad, but true. But thats why a couple of those screw wholes don't line up. Also, if you try and use the backplate with the computer turned on, they're saying that it will ground-out, or short, the video card due to solder points making contact with the backplate. Soo.....

Thanks I also noticed that the middle hole do contact with soldering points on the PCB. I dont understand why they sell backplates that does not fit and if I were to try and attach it and start my graphiccard would most likely get destroyed?

Yup. I hear ya. Ive PM'd them about it, but havent heard anything back yet. As far as destroying the card by turnin it on with the backplate, i dont know. But id say you have a pretty good chance. Announcing the the world that their backplates dont fit looks pretty bad as far as company image goes. Which is probably why they havent said anything. Nor did they announce they were redoing the 970s before they released them, even though they did it because of community response. I dont like it either, but i do like evga, and i want backplates... So rather than make a huge case about it, im going to wait patiently and hope theyre on the tech gods nice list.

The 900 series release was like a train of mine carts crashing. Someone wanted to go way too fast to get the product through that tunnel. It seems to have been mostly cleaned up with cards being rereleased with new skus as revisions but it's eerily reminiscent of AAA game title patches. Release now, polish later.

 Well it seems that EVGA got their backplate for SC and FTW mixed up in their inventory so that what should have been a backplate for SC is now a backplate for FTW and the other way around. Here is a full picture of my backplate where you can see that the part number is correct it is just that this backplate might be for the FTW version Thank you FlankerWang for the research

It will be very interesting if your backplate will fit, please get back us and fo ryour info I live in EU and ordered from the German warehouse it says it has been packaged in germany on the partnumber of the backplate so maybe the mixup is only in the EU warehouse.

I have exactly the same issue, i received my backplate yesterday, 100-BP-2981-B9, for my 980SC ( 04G-P4-2983-KR as the ts mentioned) and 4 screws out of 9 do not allign. I was about to open a thread today, but i stumbled on this one, so i don't think we need more images to understand the issue. I have already removed the backplate, not only because it was trembling, i know maybe there is no danger, but i didn't like having it that loose, but also there is obviously a real good chance for shortcutting the board as VVhiplash said (although it ran fine on me). Any chance we will be getting an formal answer from EVGA here? Trip4w what did you do?

Good you didnt by accident shortcut the card because that middle hole is dangerous. I hope that FlankerWang solved the problem by identifying that it looks like a mixup by EVGA btw SC and FTW version of the backplate. I see, i guess i need to open myself one too. Yep, FlankerWag let us know about your findings, if it's possible. Also, there were no instructions inside the package, i've changed a couple backplates in the past and i knew the drill (the "sticky" kinda plastic covers between the backplate and the card fooled a lot of people) and the .pdf file does not match, as you pointed out too. I think it will be good to have an official answer here, when this is sorted out.

I just pulled the card and the backplate, and i actually found no fit problems. After comparing the card I just assembled (I have pics if any of you are curious) and the backplates posted here, it looks as though the regular version and the FTW have been mis-packaged, I will let the support manager know about this so we can assist those who have had the issue and speak with our back end and get this resolved at the source. Again I apologize for the inconvenience, and we will work to get this resolved for all of you. **addendum** I have informed the heads of US and EU customer service know so we can get this straightened out for those of you who have the incorrect backplates.

 My friend who helped me buy the backplate just send me the photos of my FTW backplate. It looks much the same as  And it matches the paper GTX 980 FTW backplate installation. Actually when I replyed this post few hours ago, I didnt realise Trip4w and N.i.C are in EU. So I was quite uneasy. Now it seems that, EVGA US just put the pics in wrong place. But EVGA EU maybe really made a big mistake.

That makes things more clear, but in the pictures above, which is for the SC and which is for the FTW? The contours of each backplate are distinct, so which one goes with which card? Thanks.

That makes things more clear, but in the pictures above, which is for the SC and which is for the FTW? The contours of each backplate are distinct, so which one goes with which card? Thanks.
