Can someone tell me the bios settings for first loading Windows 7 Pro 64-bit... (I have my ingredients in my sig: latest firmware for Z68 motherboard [A04] and Crucial SSD [0006].) I already installed Windows 7 onto my SSD, but I had the bios set for IDE in Advanced/SATA Configuration. I thought I could then change from IDE to AHCI mode after installing Windows, but I got constant crashes after switching to AHCI in bios. A friend told me I have to install with the bios set to AHCI to begin with. So now I can't reinstall Windows with AHCI mode. Bios settings: Advanced/SATA Mode: AHCI, both SSD and BD plugged into the first 3G ports 2 & 3, Aggressive Link Power Mngmt. Disabled, hot plugs disabled. In ACPI Configuration I disabled Auto Config - although I tried it both ways - neither works. Disabled Hibernation. ACPI Sleep State - Suspend Disabled. Under Chipset I disabled the two Launch OpROMs. Boot order is Blu-ray first then SSD. When I reboot with the Win 7 disc in to reinstall Windows, I get a blinking dash "-". If I enable ACPI auto configuration, I still get a blinking dash when I reboot. When I go back into bios, the boot order has changed on me to the SSD first and BD second!

Are you running the latest BIOS? By default AHCI should have been enabled, did you change it to IDE then install windows? I suggest you load defaults, set your memory timings manually, then install windows.

Latest bios (A04)... Yes, I did change it to IDE originally because it wouldn't load otherwise - the first time the bios was NOT the latest, but now is. How do I manually change timings? I never touched them.

More info: when I first loaded Windows with the default AHCI mode, the Windows disc boot gave me the message "BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot" so I put the Win 7 disc in another computer and realized the disc was fine. Switching to IDE was the only way I could get it to load.

Change your controller back to IDE mode so you can boot to windows and then do the following: 1. Exit all Windows-based programs. 2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. 3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue. 4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci 5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify. 6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK. 7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor. Reboot in to BIOS and change the controller to AHCI, should boot right up then.
