I just purchased a GeForce GT240 (01G-P3-1236-LR) to replace my older 8600 GTS.  I was surprised that the GT240 didn't need an external PCI-E power connection since the specs indicate it is a higher performing card than the 8600 which did, but that is not why I am writing this.

Using EVGA Precision v1.9.3 and ForceWare 197.13 on a Windows 7 64-bit system, the auto fan speed does not appear to work.  If I leave it on Auto it indicates a constant 4% regardless of how hot the GPU gets (CUDA applications quickly take it over 80 C).  If I take if off Auto, I can then adjust the fan speed anywhere from 25% to 100%, but Auto appears to leave the fan essentially off.

Does the GT240 not support auto fan speed control?  Is my new card defective?

Are you using the latest NVIDIA video card driver?

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

try msi afterburner. it was also written by Unwinder (same as precision) and it has the ability to let the user set a temp/fan speed profile so as the gpu heats up the fan will ramp up accordingly.   thats what i use and it does a fantastic job at keeping my 275's in check.

rjohnson11:  I believe 197.13 is the latest and greatest.

hork:  I will try the msi utility.  Thanks.

Well, I tried the msi afterburner and it worked the same way.  As soon as I selected Auto fan speed, the fan speed dropped to 4% and stayed there.

Now the problem might be not with the utility, but my perception of how it is supposed to work.  Should I expect the fan to automatically come on when the GPU hits 80 C or is the fan reserved for even higher temps?

you have to go into settings and under the fan tab select userdefined automatic fan control then set your temp/fan speed points on the graph and save it.  when you click on the graph it will set a point. set the lowest point to 30-40% at your typical 2d idle gpu temp then set the rest in a incline based on what you want the max temp/fan speed to be. i have mine set that at 82c the fans are at 100%.

BINGO!  That did it!  For some reason the auto feature is ineffective, but using your directions my CPU temps now max out at 58C with a 70% fan speed with a 2d idle at 38C.

Thank you very much for your help.
