I recently switched to this card from the SoundBlaster AE9 which out other issues but did not experience the current issue I am seeing with the Nu Audio Card. When playing Videos in Firefox (YouTube, ESPN, Netflix, etc..) I experience frequent video stuttering coupled with audio drop outs. Everything else was fine however this evening I am seeing frequent audio drops when playing Apple Music in Itunes and also playing local files using the Groove music player. I am currently uploading a bunch of music to the icloud so it may be resource driven as I recall seeing an issue previously in other apps when I was doing something in Firefox.

I have an open ticket with support but response times are not very timely and this issue is becoming quite annoying. Hoping someone here has some ideas on what might be happening.

I am using latest driver released 8/14/19 and card is installed to a PCIE x1 slot.

I am trying to attach the DxDiag.txt file but will not let me and only allows images so I renamed the .txt file to .jpg.

Can you tell us about your CPU and motherboard? How high is the CPU utilization % when the stutters occur?

    ASRock Z77 • Intel Core i7 3770K • EVGA GTX 1080 • Samsung 850 Pro • Seasonic PRIME 600W Titanium
    My EVGA Score: 1546 • Zero Associates Points • I don't shill

    AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming with Bios 1201
MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT PCIe 4 x16
    2x Corsair 16GB DDR3200 (CMT32GX4M2C3200C16)
    2x Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 Internal SSD
    Corsair HX850i

No increase in CPU or Memory utilization when stuttering occurs and holds steady at 5-8%.

Try using òlder asmedia driver. See nu audio driver 02.04 thread.

I checked both the 2.04 and 2.07 driver threads and didn't see any mention of this. I did see it somewhere else where it mentioned going into device manager, selecting the asmedia and choosing update driver. Then choose automatic but it said I had the latest driver and didn't give me an option to install a different driver. I also don't seem to have all of the options that some users do (See attached).

Should I just install the 2.04 driver instead of 2.07?

You might want to go into the NU Audio software and go to setup. Next use the arrows on the side to go to advanced. On that screen you will see "preferred ASIO buffer size" by increasing the buffer size you might get less audio drop outs.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

2.04 will not work with ryzen 3000 cpu
2.07 fix the problem and it is working fine with my 3900x + gigabyte x570

I tried increasing the ASIO buffer size but did not help unfortunately.

I have been in contact with EVGA support as well and they are wanting to RMA the card but it doesn't seem like it would be a hardware issue. Seems driver/software related but who knows.

Should I try a different x1 slot or maybe even put it in a x16 slot?

Were you experiencing similar issues and are you referring to version 1903 of Win 10?

    Thanks

I had the cracking sound on my right speaker with 2.07. Reinstalling driver, changing pcie slot didnt fix the problem. Reinstalling win10 fix the cracking sound.

Reinstalling windows and setting up everything again is not something I really want to do so I think I may try the RMA process. It probably won't fix the issue but worth a shot until EVGA figures out what the actual issue is.

Not happy they are expecting me top pay for shipping to return the product though as it is clearly an EVGA issue.

I actually liked the AE9 but would actually experience complete loss of sound at random times and quite often. Sometimes restarting the SoundBlaster Service brought it back but not always and became too much of a nuisance.

Same issue with my setup, re-installed Windows and it did get better but as soon as I move the mouse around quite a bit it begins to snap, crackle, pop and cut out.

Checked in with our Audio team, and they suggested to try and disable some power saving-related items (such as C-State) in your motherboard BIOS to see if it helps.

One of the issues we saw previously with the other ASMedia driver is that the new AMD CPUs mess around a lot with the power saving features for USB, and this might be related to that issue.

Didn't work for my board, all those settings are already disabled as I overclock. Also I had already gone through and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" from every USB device...still, no luck.

Question is why on earth is this sound card tied up with the USB bus? I've already packed it up and am sending it back but shocked that this is an issue.

I decided not to RMA the card and just returned it to Best Buy for a refund. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the card and is definitely a software/driver issue. Hopefully EVGA is looking into the issue but based on my past correspondence with support they don't seem to be.

Ended up returning to EVGA myself, such a shame-the quality was spectacular..but drivers...not even close. Such a bummer. Waiting for my AE-9, now.

I am having EXACTLY the same issue. I even completely removed my Windows 10 and reinstalling everything ,just now, and yet nothing's changed. Desperate for ANY help now or I am returning it as well.

The only thing that made a marginal improvement (for my desktop) was finding 3rd party ASMedia USB 3.0 drivers...even then it still would have the same problem. It appears, for whatever reason, this sound card is leveraging the same resources as this controller and is also oddly classified as a USB device even though it's in a PCIE slot...really just baffled at the software for this...

Im amazed that the NU card has such basic problems, it seems like this product is not even ready to be sold to customers yet. OP should get payment from EVGA for beta testing their product.

Video stuttering and audio drop out when playing a video in a browser... After 35 years of using PC's, never have i experienced such basic problems with a soundcard. What is next, pc cannot boot with NU card installed ?

Let me know how you make out with the AE-9 as I had issues with that card as well although i see they recently released an updated driver that deals with PCI-e 4 issues.

Re: Audio Drop Outs and video stuttering since installing the Nu Audio Card 2021/02/21 10:52:52 (permalink)
I've ran into and "fixed" (worked around really) a similar issue. Problems like OP's started occurring when I switched my nu audio card to another pc. Old pc had a b350f strix, r5 1600,r9 290 trix, evga 650 white psu. I didn't have any problem with the audio card in that setup, it was used with hd58x and an Aiyima ao7 + elac b6.2 setup. Problems like audio/video microstutter started when i moved the r9 290 and the nu audio card to a ga z270x gaming 7 , i3 8350k (coffee lake microcode added to latest bios manually), 550w evag psu, HTPC. Disabled C state in bios. When playing games or watching certain videos stream on certain app i get a/v microstutter. I think it's related to gpu/video streaming (or network?). I already tried a pcie lan card(disable onboard lan) , 14$ ugreen one, and it didn't change anything. I don't have audio stutter while downloading in the background and playing music with foobar, only streaming video or any else that uses Gpu.Another thing is I get more emi than I'd like when gpu is on full load, but my smsl sk10 suffered the same thing connected to the any usb port on the aourus gaming 7. Some things I've done to work around the microstutter is I use Microsoft edge or the Brave browser since strangely enough, I don't experience any problems while using those browsers and streaming videos. Most problems happen on Firefox. Another thing to note is i use a fio D03K connect to my tv, to transmit analog audio into the line in on evga card (since the evga doesn't have a toslink input like the soundblaster zxr) ; but don't notice any effects with it connected or not for pc playback.
