Hi guys, I am new here at evga and also in the overclocking world. I basically work in the film, tv industry and I am also working in the sample music for film. The reason I am entering into this specific thread, is because I am about to build a massive computer for sample music and orchestration creation and rendering. The set upt that nickcortez just builded is actually very close to what I was thinking to get.... and wanted to ask your opinion about what I want to do. I basically need a computer capable of keeping 48 gb of ram at minimum 1333 mhz or better (1600 mhz). with a clock speed of at least 2.66 (preferable better.). Now, I read in this thread, that nickcortez recommends to gammers that the i7 920 is more overclockable for games. The speciffic question is: would it bemore suitable to get two I7 computers with 24 bg of ram each istead of a dual 5620? The reason I ask this is because I can not afford more than dual 5620. Also, I have read in other forums, that apparently to be able to overclock at all, you have to first downclock your ram to 1066... or so.... I don't know if I am getting it right or not... Anyways, I just want to see what you proffessional overclockers like you guys can tell me about my problem... just can't decide. My budget is about maximum $3000 I thank you in advance for your help... And sorry if I am been to rude for entering this discussion.

i would say : styart you own topic, so everybody can discus there you're build and questions. and to answer you now : you have to put you're mem slower, because when you raise you're Bclock, you're mem goes also higher. example : Bclock 133 mem 1333 Bclock 175 mem 1066 in bios, but is raised to 1333 with the Bclock. Two i7-920 is nothing against SR-2 setup with dual QPI link , between cpu's itself and chipset. Sr-2 is better

Hi Chillernr 1, Thanks so much for your reply. I will definetly take your advice and open a new thread with my problem. Now, about your answer: yes, what I have been reading, is that as soon as you elevate your Bclock, your ram goes higher too, so you have to lower it down to compensate. I guess a lot of these answers will come with the new thread I am going to open. About the fact that the QPI are linked in a dual socket motherbord, I have to admit, that I never saw it that way. ... So I gues it will definetly make a diference compare to a normal single I7 motherboard. Thanks so much again.

The dual E5620s I have are running nice at 3.4GHZ and can manage 3.6 easily. They are probably one of the best bang for buck Xeons IMO. The reason I said the i7 is a better choice for a gamer is because there is no need for more than two threads/cores for a game so its more of a practicality thing with that. $3000 is a tight budget for an SR-2 but its manageable. the case I have is rather expensive for what I have as my current configuration since im not watercooling....yet Good luck with your build!

It's so.... clean! Impressive how it's come along since your first post =) Truly a monstrous build without looking like a monstrosity! I'm super impressed by the work.

Ah... yes the optical drive.... I'm going to take care of that... I know it was in my first list of mods for this build so I guess its about time to fix it.
