My SC17 1080 GSync just arrived today.  Are there any tips anyone would care to share with a new owner?  I currently also own an almost 2 yr old SC17 980M laptop, too.  Warranty is almost up, so needed to get a replacement (currently used for work).  The 980M will be my spare.

I think I am not the only one that frequents here that has the same model. Great laptop, build and performance, as well as thermals compared to the the 1070 model and considering the hotter components. Cooling is better than the AW 17 R4, Aorus, just a bit behind the MSI GT73 and Clevo, because they don't share the cpu and gpu heatsink and are a lot thicker.
    Any questions let me know.

I figured for another $200, why not get the 1080 model with a better processor.  It is for work, and to game on during my off hours.  I was wondering if you put the heat sink on the NVMe SSD.  I read another post in this forum that said it helped keep the drive a lot cooler.  I am having to return my first one.  It has an issue with one of the mini display ports, and the NIC port has issues letting go of network cables.
I am impressed with how much faster the 1080 model is compared to my 980m model.  (Benchmarks are about 2x better.)
Do the drivers on the EVGA site improve performance?

Yes i put a heatsink on the NVMe, but it is not necessary......alhtough NVME can run hot a the controller, they rarely throttle the speed unless to some really intense sustained workload, which is not the usual customer use.

About EVGA drivers, they are outdate, let windows update the chipset ones, get the latest nvidia one from their site, latest intel wifi and bluetooth from their site....the only EVGA software you need is the precision mobile x if you want to use that, and BIOS updates.....don't worry abou the rest.  Even the touchpad from window update works fine, EVGA clickpad, alhough I use and prefer much more the windows precision driver which is possible to use.

Sure, return it and get the latest coffee lake 6 core and possibly for less money.

Care to share what kind of program you are all using with this 4k screen?
VLC looks terribly small, same with Foobar Music player. Other stuff I have no problem being small, but these 2 I need them bigger ><

And which VR would you recommend? Good and affordable price.. Would be a waste not to utilize its power for VR =)

Try using MPC-HC+LAV codecs with madVR. The screen is gorgeous, and you will be able to enjoy movies unlike anything you have seen thus far, provided those are in 4k too, or at least 1080p with enough bit rate (10+Mbps for 1080p, and 20+Mbps for 4k).

If the 4k video has HDR, try using HDR->SDR decoding of madVR to get good result.

Best VR right now is probably Odyssey by Samsung. Although it depends what you want it for. I would probably hold on for few more months to wait for a good VR head set.
